NEWS: Powell May Exit State Dept, Become Ambassador to UK

From the Evening Standard:

US secretary of state Colin Powell is the main candidate to be the next American ambassador to London, the Evening Standard has learned.

Mr Powell is widely expected to step down from his current post after the presidential elections in November.

It is understood President Bush, if re-elected, may use the offer of the ambassadorship, one of the most sought-after diplomatic postings, to ease the departure of Mr Powell, 67.

Kind of a demotion, isn't it?

Well not so much as demotion, as it is a stress relief, being Sec of State is probably a big stress job, and Colin is tired of dealing with the stress so he wants to step down so someone else can take over. Not too uncommon for Sec of State to change or other jobs.

pretty large price to pay...even for the court of st james. wonder if powell will be able to get a loan with bad credit.
