I was sitting around with a group of acquaintances discussing the upcoming election, with the proponents of the two major candidates being united on one thing -- the belief that the other side would stoop to absolutely anything to win.
I asked them the following: Suppose the election is over, and the results are once again in dispute. It appears that when all is done, though, the other guy is going to be inaugurated president... You, along with the vast majority of your candidate's supporters, are convinced that the election was stolen through some kind of fraud, and there is enormous anger.
Then, lo and behold, your guy simply seizes control. The details would differ, depending on which guy it was, but imagine that your guy did it. Would you support him?
I told the other people in the room that it was no good answering either that their guy wouldn't do it, nor that he couldn't do it. Imagine he did. Would you stand by him?
