Latest internal Stardock update.

Latest internal Stardock update.

Try this..

Included in this ZIP is a file we hope will fix the following:

1) The endorsement crash problem (Cause: Windows 98 handles INI files differently than other OSes)

2) "Cannot initialize display" (Working attempt here is to try to force into various other modes in the driver to see if we can get around it)

3) Game crashes after intro.

If you're not running into any problems, then don't bother with this.

Unzip into your political machine directory. Only works on the full version and you still need your CD on the drive and such.

We're definitely trying to see what the deal is.  Sadly, it's almost certainly because we're using some new DirectX 9 feature (not even a 3D feature) that some of the cards aren't supporting well yet.

Let me give you an example - DirectX 9 is the first DirectX that makes it easy to use True Type fonts in a game. Previously, you had to encode your own fonts. That's one reason why most games have ugly fonts.  But not all drivers are supporting this feature correctly.

So it's just a matter of figuring out which feature we're using that is giving problems and then figure out if there's a way we can work around it (the font one we can't do anything about because we can't really go and encode 20 different fonts at this point).

bigpez,

Did you uninstall the old drivers before installing the new one when you tried the latest drivers? If you didn't, that could have caused the locking up.

I can make you a exe with special debug code in it for the interviews if you e-mail me so that I can send it to you. In your e-mail, please identify yourself as bigpez, list all your current problems with Political Machine (and what version you're running) and attach your dxdiag report so that I can have all your info in one place.

The 1.02 patch definitely freezes my machine often.

The other two prob I have with 1.01 are:

1) I am never given the OPTION to win the endorsement of the CHamber of Business and

2) My machine often crashes when I try winning ANY endorsement of any kind.

What to do?

seiadoon2,

You need to have DirectX 9.0c to run 1.02. If you have DirectX 9.0c and are stilll having problems, please run dxdiag by doing the following:

1) Click on your Windows Start button.
2) Click on Run
3) Enter the word dxdiag
4) Allow it to check to see if your drivers are digitially signed, and wait until it's finished gathering information.
5) Click on Save all information.

Then attach the file in an e-mail to me.

DahMooch, the endorsement bug is fixed in 1.02. Please check to make sure that you are running the latest version of DirectX and that you have the latest drivers for your video card. If you send me your dxdiag report, I can try to figure out why 1.02 freezes your machine.

Hey, I just installed 1.02 to fix the endorsement bug, which was making games unplayable. I got directx 9.0c. Now the game starts, and runs, but doesn't show a map. The area where the map should be simply ocntinues to show the last thing that was in that space. So if I open the Create Ad menu, the last part of creating an ad will stay there. If i open the endorsement window, the endorsement dialogue will linger. I can theoretically move my candidate around, and click on states, (the info on the bottom of the screen changes to match new state) I just can't SEE it. This is much worse than the game crashing on endorsements.

Incidentally, it did fix the Chamber of Commerce issue.

Any ideas on why the map won't display?

Thanks.

Citizen DoorFrame,

I've only seen that problem once and I fixed it by updating the video drivers for that machine. If you have the latest drivers, please run dxdiag and send the report to me at

Email

along with a description of the problem so that I know it's you.
