Video Card problems: Post here

Tell us what you've got

At this stage there are two main issues we find some people having:

1) Cannot Find Display

or

2) Game crashes after intro.

Problem #1 has to do with their video card and problem #2 has to do with the Safedisc copy protection and can be fixed by contacting either [email protected] or [email protected]

Now for those of you having problem #1 OR some other video card/system problem that prevents you from running the game, help us to help you:

Tell us:

  • What kind of video card you have (brand and model)
  • What operating system you're running
  • What version of the video drivers are you running on that card

The only video card we are aware of that cannot run the game is the older Intel integrated video adapter (though we haven't found out if it will work if people update their drivers).  Because if there is some video card that isn't compatible for some reason, we can go out and try to get that card and figure out what the deal is.  The game DOES work on pretty much every reasonably supported video card out there (from an nVidia TNT all the way up to an ATI X800).  As long as you have 16 megabytes of video memory, the game should work on your computer.

Thanks in advance.

My game freezes right after intro, I hear the erreor box, but can not see it to know what it says.
My video card is the SIS 630\730 driver is sis630m.drv any help would be appreciated.

If you e-mail [email protected], we can send you a version of the exe without the safedisc copy protection, which often causes lockups. Also, you can disable the intro by going into the prefs.ini file in the Data folder and setting SkipIntro=1.

I ran the test for v1-01 and recieved an error message that files were corrupt. Re-installed game and recieved same message. What can I do?

What test? If you're still getting errors after re-installing, it sounds like it's not totally cleaning out the files when uninstalling. You can manually delete the PoliticalMachine directory after un-installing if necessary.

The game worked fine until I installed the 1.02 patch.

AngelFan, please create a shortcut to political machine and run with the parameter debug, then send me the debug.err file.

1) Use Windows Explorer to find PolMachine.exe.
2) Right click on PolMachine.exe and choose create shortcut.
3) Right click on the shortcut and choose properties.
4) Click in the target field and hit end. Hit Space followed by the word debug

FromABasementOnTheHill:

Check to make sure that you have the latest version of DirectX, that you have the latest version of Political Machine, 1.02, and that you have the latest video drivers for your card. If you still have problems, please e-mail support @stardock.com

Anything I can do here to get this game to work on this machine?

I had the game crash midway with a blue screen dump on nv4.display.dll, I deleted the nvidia geforce in the device manager under display adapters and then reinstalled drivers and it seems to work so far... but what would be the cause of this in the first place?

I get the "Failed to initialize display" message.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440.
I'm running Windows XP (Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2).
The driver is NVIDIA ForceWare v66.93 .

I've downloaded the 1.02 update from your website.

Can you help? Thanks in advance.

I adjusted my hardware acceleration; now the display is initialized and I see the introduction, but then the game crashes.

I received a version of the exe without the safedisc copy protection, and that seems to have solved the problem.
