attn: Frogboy-Failed to initialze display 1.01b .exe did not work

Dear Frogboy,

I have been experiencing the "Failed to initialize display" crash that prevent the game from starting. I have updated my Nvidia Vanta LT drivers to the latest version, and I have DirectX 9. I tried your test .exe 1.01b to get around this bug on a original CD installed version with the applied 1.01 patch, and it still fails to start, but I get the following message: "The game has detected possible corruption of core data files. Continuing with multiplayer disabled. Please re-install from the original CD or Stardock Central to start normally"

I tried re-installing as it suggested, and it did not help. Do you know what could be causing this problem? I would very much like to play the game, which I purchased with hard-earned money, and I must say I feel somewhat cheated by a product that will not even start.

Thank you for looking into this.

Much to my embarrasment, I learned that my Nvidia Vanta/Vanta LT video card only has 8 MB RAM. I have been playing very non-graphics intensive strategy games for years, and no video card requirement for anything I have played has ever gone above 4 MB RAM, so I did not even think to check that PM (essentially a strategy game) would require 32 MB video RAM. The most recent games I bought were Victoria (2003) and Hearts of Iron (2002), which do fine on my system.

Obviously, this is my fault for not checking, and I apologize for any comments made in frustration.

Does anyone know anything I can do short of buying a new video card?

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

I think that you're going to have trouble unless you have at least 16 MB of video ram. Sorry about that.

If you end up deciding to get a new video card, Link has good deals.
