how to re-initialize SDCentral?

I had a bad crash of my SDCentral setup a while back. I ended up wiping everything and reinstalling from scratch. Unfortunately, the program no longer knows about all the software I have installed, e.g. Galciv and A.P. expansion. Is there any way I can get SDCentral to recognize what I have installed, and what version - so the online update will start working again? (somehow I seem to think that it actually used to do that, automatically, way way back when?!?).

It should still find what you have installed. When you say you did a complete reinstall, do you mean of Windows and everything or just StardockCentral? Also which version of StardockCentral are you using?

Jake, I am using the latest version of SDCentral that is available via auto-update.

When I said I reinstalled I was referring to SDCentral. At one point, after autoupdating, it no longer logged in (that error 1001) and when I tried to restore to an earlier version I messed up and somehow managed to botch every thing up pretty badly, which meand I had to wipe SDCentral, I cleaned the registry, and redownloaded - I think it was version 2, build 293 from the Stardock website.

Where would SDCentral go looking for the pertinent info w.r.t. installed software? Is there any way I can feed it what it needs to know?
Guess I could reinstall Galciv and GalcivX from the original downloads but then SDCentral would just update everything from scratch again, unnecessarily chewing into my monthly data allowance ....

cheers, -Peter

Jake,
I just did some double-checking with the registry, and what registry keys I had saved out. It seems I managed to delete the key for Galciv. Galciv itself will run fine, but Altarian Prophecy now complains that I must have Galciv 1.2 installed for it to run - seems I will have to get the keys for Galciv restored somehow

Interesting, please write [email protected] and I will see if I can get those keys for you. Also please make a note on what is going on so I can follow it.

Thanks!

After I found out what was missing, I managed to merge the missing keys back into my registry. It was the hkey_local_machine/software/stardock/drengin.net/ hierarchy that I restored. (fortunately I had made backups before scrubbing the registry). Altarian Prophecy now runs happily again, and so does SDCentral recognize
my Galciv installation

Sorry if I've wasted your time ... I thought I had been down that very avenue before, but without success - hence my calls for help - looks like I missed something the first time around.

cheers, and thanks for your efforts, -Peter
