Why won't the maps change?

I have been playing the game for a couple of days, and I still can't get the map appearances to change. Regardless of the setting, I only get a grey colored map of states. Sometimes certain views will give me a different color border around the state. Is this it? Is there something else I can do to fix this?

Please try turning off AntiAliasing and restart the game, that may clear it up for you. If not, please tell me your hardware specs, which version of Windows you are running, and whatever else you may think is relevant.

I'm having the exact same problem and it's very annoying. I have Windows XP, and an ATI 128 Rage Ultra video card. I have latest DirectX and drivers.
It would seem that this is a problem with the game, judging by the amount of other people experiencing it. So please release a patch or tell us how to fix it. Thanks.

Do all of you have ServicePack 1 installed? It is required to run the game properly.

same problem as others, with SP1 installed and Anti-aliasing off (or on, doesn't matter).

Please help...I have friends who saw that I got the game and I want to tell them it's as cool as it looks, but if I can't get these bugs fixed I'll tell them not to bother.
