"failed to initialize display"

I get the message "failed to initialize display" when I try to start the game. I run it from at laptop with 32 mb video memory. Not sure if I have 3d accelerator.
what should i doo to get it to start

There's a good chance that your video card can't play the game. Some video cards can't display 32bit DirectX.  What type of video card is in your laptop?

Try this:

Change your screen resolution to be running in 16bit color (65k colors).

Run The PoliticalMachine like this: c:\>polmachine w

And see if that works.  That should force the game into using 16bit color. Let me know if this works.
