Can't get past the intro

I got the game at EB yesterday and after installing it it started through the opening intro and then crashed to desktop without an error message. I have updated all my drivers, Directx, etc. and still it won't work. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled several times in various directories (fonts can't be removed - what's up with that?) and tried it on two different CD drives. Any suggestions?

System:
Windows XP (SP1)
AMD Athlon 2700 on Asus nforce mobo
Geforce 4 Ti
Sound Blaster live
1024 Mb memory

We have had a couple of reports on this and we think it's a matter of the "copy protection" not seeing your CD ROM drive for some reason.
