Bill Mason = Bob Dole

But what about the other "fake" default candidates?

Who do people think Mike Forbes, Chloe Sullivan, Jeffory Jackson, etc. are?

I thought Chloe Sullivan was Hillary until I saw that Hillary was already in the game. Mike Forbes could be Bill Frist, but Frist doesn't wear glasses and isn't rich. Steve Forbes wears glasses, but isn't from Tennessee.

Anyone else have any guesses?

Whitman's a Republican from New Jersey, so probably not. Good guess though. She fits a lot of the traits.

The former beauty queen? That definetely fits.

Wonder why the state isn't Michigan.

I wish Chloe was a Republican. She's a perfect VP fit for a lot of the default GOP candidates.

I was dissapointed with the VP republicans but looking at the national political scene, it kinda makes sense. Whitman and Engler would have been good additions if the game was made back in 2000 but right now the pickings in real life are a bit slim.

I think Chloe Sullivan is a character on the TV show "Smallville." Somebody at SD must have a thing for her because her stats are the best of anybody in the game.

Bill Mason might be Dole. There is a "real" Bill Mason who is a very well-known outdoorsman and maker of canoes. But he's Canadian.

I think they could have added some people. John McCain springs to mind as a definite. There was talk of dropping Cheney and replacing him with McCain earlier in the year.

I also think you could have added Ridge (a 2008 possible contender), Bob Taft (another 2008 contender), Jeb, Bill Frist, Guiliani (another definitely should be in the game kind of guy), and Colin Powell.

Good call jefferson!

That's exactly who she is! And you're right. She's way overpowered.

Forbes switched parties to the Democrats and was beaten.

I definetely don't think Mike Forbes is that Mike Forbes, the state difference aside.

McCain and Guliani for sure but considering the deomcrats in the game, folks like Frist aren't as viable. Yes in a perfect all encompassing game they belong but when you look at the real dem candidates in the game there is a good reason for them to be there. If they can leave out Lieberman, I can see leaving out Frist, Jeb, or Ridge.

Perhaps a sticky with most wanted additional characters is in order?

The game suffers from almost no Republican candidates. There are two viable 2004 candidates (Bush, Cheney), 0 2008 GOP candidates, and one real historical GOP candidate, Bush Sr., available at the start. The GOP has three ridiculous candidates (B. Bush, L. Bush, and Rice), Mike Forbes, and Arnold (who can't legally run for president).

Maybe you can see why I'm throwing names like Frist out there. The Republicans really were hosed in terms of the real, 2004 and beyond candidates included in the game. Even if you open up all the campaign GOP'ers, you arent' going to get any new 2004 or 2008 possibles.

While I agree with everything you said, I don't think the republicans have a clear 2008 choice in real life either. I do think one of the drawbacks of the game is the lack of characters to run. I can't believe Barbara and Laura Bush made the cut but Elizabeth Dole didn't.

I haven't tried so I have to ask, can user made candidates be VP choices?

I know this may not be the right forum for this, but we are on the subject of candidates in the game:
How does B. Bush, L. Bush, Arnold, and Cheney receive the same military rating as Gore (who served in Vietnam), Carter (who was in the Navy), and only one point behind GENERAL Wes Clark?? For that matter, Gebhart has the same rating (did he serve?) as Grant, who, if I recall, commanded the Union troops to victory during the Civil War.

Lastly, Hillary is based out of New York--fine (though she's from Illinois). Grant, however, is based out of Ohio, where he was born (but lived there for less than 10 years), but spent most of his political career in Illinois.

Thanks for reading, and sorry for the rant!

Hope ya don't mind but I'd like to hijack your rant for a sec.

How did Kerry recieve a higher militar rating than Clarke? Supreme Commander vs Lt and Lt is higher? Some of the experience ratings leave me scratching my head as well but this one just seems wrong.

Its because Clark was designed to be an "easy" candidate and Kerry was designed as challenging.

A lot of ratings make more sense in terms of scaling difficulty than reality. Its another problem caused by the game v. simulation debate.

I know the candidates in the early contests of campaign play are easy to beat--is that a function of their ratings or difficulty settings? I don't think it's the former, because based on ratings Rice is one of the highest rated players and Grant is one of the lowest rated players.

I think the entire rating system need revamped. I would be inclined to agree that this was a game play decision but that could have been balanced with the other stats. Clarke should have a much lower experience rating than Kerry and in political terms it is far better to be an experienced politician than an experienced soldier.

I think they should allow you to edit the default candidates to suit your tastes, but I've probably ranted too much on the candidates issue. I'm not a fan of the ratings of the default candidates, the number of them, or the 5 point custom candidate system (custom candidates are really bad if you look at default candidate ratings).
you guys can change the ratings of default candidates... AND you can g outside the 5 point limit for your custom candidates. You just need to konw where to look and how to use notepad...

Thanks Jeff. I think I'm the one that told you about that.

I'd still like to see an editor. I don't multiplay, but I'd still like the option.

NO I mean you can edit even more tha the candidate files. Ther'es a file with all the preloaded candidates on it and you can edit it just like all the ohters. It's just a big clump of them together.
