Video card issue...

I've got a new compaq presario r1000 with a 15.4" widescreen display. When ever I try to play the game I don't get any images, I hear the opening music and then the window seems to close, reopen, and then I've got a totally black screen and it freezes. When I restart my computer reports that the video card has a failure. The video card is an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP. I tried reduing the scren size to 800x600 but no luck. Anyone have any ideas?

One of the guys here in the office had a widesceen Toshiba laptop that we'd test the game on quite reqularly, which would stretch to fix the window, but play fine otherwise. Try setting your res to 1024x768 (of the nearest widescreen alternative) and running the game with the 'w' paramater (for windowed mode). Lets see if that gets the game running.
