Let's see, what's not to do in New York City? It's impossible to be bored!! It really depends what you're into to be honest. Obviously there's all the fabulous museums and art galleries- MoMA's wonderful and The Met on 5th Avenue is a must...Radio City, Museum of natural history are the obvious go-sees.Personally, I adore central park- it's so beautiful, go see the carousel in central park south - on the east side, oo and the zoo...if you go in on 72nd street there's a big pond where they have all the model boats and everything. Up towards harlem there's more sports and stuff. I don't know about you, but I love parks and Central is my favorite, although Prospect is pretty high up there too..it's in Brooklyn. The Bronx has huge botanical gardens too. Um..of course you could go see Lady Liberty now she's open again but you can't get too high up anymore..so- go to Staten Island -I live there!!- it's kinda stuck a decade back but has lots of history to explore and beautiful parks too. It's much greener and more suburban. For nightime there are so many awesome bars. I'd stick to Manhattan, hit Broadway. You want somewhere classy try the Bubble Lounge in TriBeCa...it's a classic, or try The Meat Packing district for the really cool bars,There are some really great rooftop bars- like The Heights between 111th and 112th on Broadway- it's studenty, so go for happy hour. Roof garden cafe's on top of The Met and is pretty nice...But if you like divey bars like I do...119 bar East 15th street..at Union Square I think or try china town or East Village. Luke and Leroy if you're a smoker like me on Seventh Avenue south. *breathe**
I think they extended restaurant week (but I dunno, cuz I'm not there) so eating out should be less expensive. The best food though is either diner or street food. Just look out for carts like Daisy May's. Japonica for sushi is good..Joe at waverly place is so good for coffee and celebrities( if ur into that..not that I am..*cough). For shopping personally I like vintage stores like Family jewels on west 23rd street but Barney's is my guilty pleasure for wandering around in, wishing I could buy all the pretty things!! Oh-and check out the Chelsea flea, although there used to be a market in hell's kitchen by the bus terminal that's better and cheaper but I dunno if it's still up and running. Oh- Hell's Kitchen- I love it. It's still trashy, still dirty, still New York. Soho's very pretty too...Ah hell- go everywhere!!
There's around three million places I haven't mentioned and a million things I haven't told you to do..you just can't write New York on a page. You have to see it, live it. I know you'll have a good time, even if none of this helps. Just remember, always tell the cab driver where you're going and how to get there so he doesn't rip you off!!!
