Freelancer on sub?

My vote for a game to add for members would be Freelancer or another free roaming space game of this sort. The game seems to have been cast off by Microsoft and would be a great addition.

I was sort of disappointed with a few aspects of the Freelancer system... like I would have liked the trade system to be a bit more dynamic(this would especially come into play for online play). Basically, I remember an old DOS game called Uncharted Waters, where as a trader, if you continually bought from a single port, the prices would keep rising... and if you dumped a lot of goods there, the prices would fall. But in the Freelancer universe, prices stay the same, so generally it becomes a little boring after a while.

yes, the persistant universe could be annoying at times, with an economy that stayed the same all the time. The ships also could have used something more dynamic and custimizable, there were alot of 'little' things that made the game just under the classic game status. But, when it first came out I said the same things, and said, along with alot of other people, great place to start with, now if only they can create an expansion pack to flesh it out to make it really great. *sigh* One example would be bases you could build with cash. Setup your own trading expo. Create your own ships, research technology, start your own maurauder band, etc...

I think I mirror alot of the same feelings here. But just to add a few points no one has mentioned; graphically, Freelancer is a beautiful game. (Along those same lines I think O.R.B. is right up there with Freelancer in that department.) However, as for gameplay, I got bogged down in Freelancer before I could finish the storyline. The repetitive nature of the missions and the predictability in space combat just got old after awhile. So while its a decent game, I'm not sure its totalgaming.net worthy.

well, it certainly shouldn't be hard to get considering that people are selling in bargain bin category of 10bucks or less, that and its a few years old.

I finished the storyline, and what there was of it, it was ok, but, the storyline was very short. not on par with some of the better old school wing commander stuff, but it was interesting. If it had a more robust and dynamic universe alot of that could have been taken care of and made funner. Graphically its sweet, and if anyone played the old privateer 2, now there was a system that truely was great. If freelancer had taken privateer 2s basics, and expanded on them, it woulda been quite nice. Although I love the mouse control system in some respects, but old school joystick is classic.

The best thing ever would be a Hybrid of Freelancer and the X-beyond the frontier, X² and X³ sagas,

Then you have fantastic solar systems with nice ships, a ultra nice trading feeling, and nice KI and a great story capacity,

You would never leave the game =o)

what would you say?

I would love to add Freelancer, but Microsoft has an exclusive deal with Exent for their games last I heard.

Why do you people like Freelancer so much? I recently bought it and all it had going for it was the free-roaming aspect, the space combat. Did reputations with NPC groups even matter? It never seemed to do anything for me. I also hated that there only seemed to be 4-5 ship designs per area and once you went into a new area your ship was vastly underpowered.
