Can't install ORB

Every time I try to install ORB, the process hangs on alloc.txt. Stardock Central still works normally, it just never gets past unpacking this file. I also downloaded an archive of the game and tried restoring that, but Stardock Central started to download the game again.

If it's any help, I looked around the Stardock/Temp directory to find the file and noticed two versions of it in the same place, "alloc.txt" at 0kb, and "alloc.txt_" at 1kb. Might deleting the 0kb version before Stardock Central starts unpacking it fix the problem?

Which version of stardockCentral are you running? (please include the build number) If you are not running build 58 or higher please redownload SDC. You can try deleting the \program files\stardock\sdcentral\alloc.txt_ file and try the install again to see if it will download the Alloc.txt file again. You can also (I hate to suggest it) delete the entire \program files\stardock\sdcentral\temp folder and redownload it.

Also please send the \program files\stardock\SDCentral\installed\orb.log to [email protected], so I can get a better look at what is going on. Please make a note about the issue that you are having when you send it.

Thanks!

I'm running ver 2.00.293 build 58 of SDC. The .log file has been sent as requested. I'll try what you suggested and report back later. I should also mention that this is the only game I'm having installation trouble with; everything else installed perfectly.

I had the same issue. The solution was to uninstall SDC, then delete the remainder of the SDC directory. Upon reinstalling SDC, the next download and install worked perfectly.

Leyic:
Since that is the case, before you delete the entire SDC folder, do a File->Archive on the apps that you don't want to download again, then save the backup folder someplace. Then if you need to delete the entire SDC folder, you can then restore what you had without needing to redownload.

I deleted everything in the /temp folder and tried again but ran into the same problem. I also noticed something else weird: when it gets to alloc.txt, SDC suddenly takes up every spare CPU cycle, slowing my computer to a crawl, and my antivirus program also starts acting up. That's happened three times so far, so it's obviously connected. I'll try disabling my antivirus and deleting that 0kb file before uninstalling all of SDC.

Nothing I've done has gotten the process past this alloc.txt file, and I'm not too keen on uninstalling SDC, so I'll just wait and hope a future version of SDC fixes this problem. Thanks for the help guys.
