Strong on Defense?

Which party would you choose?

Let's look at how the last 3 presidents from each party have done on major defense issues.

Republicans:

GW Bush: Invaded Iraq and Afghanistan. Established GITMO. Demands complete, verifiable, and irreversible disarmament of North Korea.

GHW Bush: Ejected Iraq from Kuwait.

Reagan: Massive buildup of the military. Made the end of communism in the USSR and it satellite states a goal of US policy.

Democrats:

Clinton: Bombed and occupied Kosovo. Bombed Iraq and Sudan. Gave (or sold?) a nuclear reactor to North Korea.

Carter: Led peace talks between Israel and Egypt. Failed to secure the release of US hostages in Iran.

LBJ: Escalated US involvement in Vietnam.

Actually Carter did secure the release of hostages. Just not in time to benefit.

You're fantasizing about Reagan; true he was tough but don't forget the prior presidents that taunted the Soviets into inevitable collapse.

Actually Carter did secure the release of hostages. Just not in time to benefit.


That right there is what made the Terrorists think their program worked when the U.S. got those hostages back and withdrew. Terrorists all around the Islamic world realized than they could use extreme tactics against a super power and eventually it would work letting them get their way.
