Manual, page 28: Mini-freighter slalom

In the GalCiv manual, on page 28, it is written that mini-freighters do not always go in straight lines but keep the shortest path. I was a bit surprised let's say...

Does this only mean that mini-freighters simply go around a planet or starbase that's in the way or did I miss something?

They'll just go around anything they can't go through.

They move diagonal first until they are on a straight course.

Thus they use a different path on their way back when the stars are not in the same sector line. The total circle looks like a rhomb.

This is important to know when you place your trade starbases.
