The Argument Against Homosexuality

The debate of homosexual rights seems to be a particularly divisive one. Having been posting on this message board for only several days I have seen both sides of the argument. There is the religious and the secular. Not surprisingly the religious argument is against homosexual rights. While the secular argument seems, normally to advance the cause.

One argument I’ve read elsewhere is that anti-gay policies constitute gender discrimination. When you think about it though, is it really based on gender? Or is it based on sexual orientation? Perhaps a way to solve this is a “Don’t ask; don’t tell policy.”
Gender is an innate component of a person’s being and an essential characteristic of individual identity and purpose. Marriage is between a man and a woman for the purpose of building a nuclear family--historically where children are raised. Homosexuality is not just another alternative lifestyle or even a sexual "preference;" it is unhealthy and destructive behavior which negatively impacts individual persons, families, and society. Same sex attraction is a symptom of a developmental disorder that can often be prevented and can be treated. Homosexual advocacy groups seeking to normalize homosexual behavior by equating homosexuality with innate characteristics such as race or ethnicity should be opposed.
Reputable studies and decades of successful treatment show that homosexual behavior can be changed. Homosexual activists claim that homosexuality is an unchangeable condition and insist that therapy does not work. They attempt to justify their claim by defining success in absolute terms stipulating that: before treatment a person must have never experienced opposite-sex attraction and never engaged in heterosexual relations. After treatment the person must be fully heterosexual in behavior and never have another same-sex thought or temptation for the rest of his life. This would be the equivalent of saying that no diet program works unless the person never gains back one ounce and is never tempted to overeat again.
Some homosexual groups are fighting for the right to marry. Listen: Homosexuals do have this right. Homosexuals can marry one member of the opposite sex. Furthermore homosexuals are afforded the same citizenship rights as their heterosexual counterparts. They can vote, own property, etc. When homosexuals say they are discriminated against because they are married they are no different than people who are not allowed to marry their children, polygamists, and bigamists.

Some also say that homosexuals are powerless and opposed by society in general. Homosexuals are one of the most powerful special interest groups in the U.S.. Their success in passing special "gay" rights legislation is unprecedented. Their opponents are silenced by cries of “homophobia” and their cause has been taken up as a major plank in the Democratic Party’s platform. Their political power goes way beyond what would be expected of a minority that makes up about 2 % of the population.
Some also say that gays suffer criminal persecution eg. Hate crimes. This however is not true. Of the 15517 in the united states in 2000 only 2 were hate crimes directed toward homosexuals.
Some groups claim that 10% of the population is homosexual. This is a statistical distortion. This particular study was directed toward males and cannot be applied to the female spectrum. Current studies conclude that 1.8-3% of males consider themselves homosexual.

Other say that homosexual behavior is not harmful and that what one does in the bed room is no one‘s business. Last year the Government of the United States spent billions of dollars on AIDS research. What about prostitution, drug-use, and incest? They all occur in the bed room yet there are laws against them.

As for the religious argument: Anyone know the story of Sodom and Gomorrah? It’s contained in Genesis 18 and 19.

Conclusion: Homosexuals are not that way by nature, do not suffer anymore persecution than other minorities, are extremely powerful politically for the size of the demographic, and homosexual behavior is harmful to the society.

I honestly wouldn't mind people being allowed to be married people of the same sex, but I also believe that people should be able to have multiple wives or husbands.

I do agree with you that the homosexual special interest group is rather melodramatic. There are groups that are treated much worse, such as little people, many of whom say the word "midget" is derogatory, but is going to be used for awhile, because nobody takes them seriously. Hell, people can even treat them as not "human" and people will still cheer for them (i.e. Jesse Ventura).

(Kind of offtopic, but still something I want to say) I would say that homosexuals are as natural as pedophiles. That is not to say that homosexuality is as bad as pedophilia. No, I'd never condone sexual relationships with children. However, they are still similar: they're both unordinary sexual preferences that nobody would supposedly choose willingly because of all the persecution they'd supposedly face. I think if people could hate and slander somebody for being attracted to young children (even if they don't do anything to those young children), then I think the same should hold true for homosexuals.
