4v4 clan match RaY vs GE

I challenged GE on behalf of RaY last week, and today the challenge was answered. GE won the day. The line-up was

RaY
Rokkit
Conan
Leinad
Therlun

GE
Eets
Gauntlet
Shadowhal
Hobo

I haven't yet watched the replay but from in-game, it felt like the GE strategy and co-ordination gave them the edge. Expect a full battle report to follow, but for now, here's the replay (in two parts because of a reload partway through).

Ok so here is a full report from my perspective, after the obvious initial colonisation.

Essentially the battle for me was over the volcanic world and asteroid on the front lines. I was keen to hold the volcanic in particular, given the lack of metal on map (as Advent I wasn't up for competing with Vasari over Belts).

My flagship was lost due to unfortnuate timing of the save and reload - during the time I saved the game the flagship was heavily hit, although at least in position to phase out, but when the game reloaded the stubborn thing span around to face the odds again! I just managed to get it out but it was quickly finished off by Eets' waiting bomber squadron at the other end of the phase lane.

I had been aiming for a shield spam strategy but losing the mothership kind of upset things, so I replaced it with a Radiance, hoping it would count for more in a straight out fight. It was taken down faster than a pro-democracy website in China by three lvl 4 caps plus Eets Enforcers(!), which he had teched to without us noticing. Having noticed (and fretted over) Hobo's fast Assailant spam I had teched to Defenders and hoped Rokkit and Therlun would be able to handle the caps and Enforcers, but facing the caps and Enforcers was too much, plus Therlun had to retreat to handle some pirates, and although the Defenders performed admirably against the Assailants and Javelis, it wasn't enough and the volcanic was lost.

From here I had no cap, little metal and no fleet, but plenty of crystal and cash, so I researched Guardians and Illuminators and began (slowwwwly) building up a new fleet, more to support one of the other guys than to stand up by itself. But by the time I had even a small number of ships together we'd lost even more ground, and found ourselves out numbered, out eco'd, out cap'd, and on the retreat on all fronts, so decided to surrender rather than force a long drawn out defeat.

We really didn't do a good job on this one. We failed on scouting, and didn't co-ordinate well enough as a team. Our initial expansion would have served us well had we managed to hold onto it, but GE responded too quickly and were a step ahead on strategy throughout the entire game.

Grats to GE, but although you may have won this star, the Rebels and Yanks are far from defeated.

would you rather i had researched enforcers and then not built a fleet? enforcers dont automatically equal win, it is plain if you watch the replay that my teching to build enforcers cost me time, logistics slots, and a LOT of metal and crystal. This gave RaY a big advantage at colonization and economy. If therlun had managed to get the disable ability on his hoshinko's, my fleet would have been effectively neutralized and he and his teammates would have done much better against us. Also, the rushed research costs made is so i was pretty much locked into only building enforcers while therlun, who managed to get an economy going as well as military labs, was able to field a much larger fleet and research other ships. If he had managed to go bombers, when coupled with conan's flaks, our only response choice would have been flaks ourselves, which i would have been unable to get, and would have seriously messed up gauntlet or hobo's strategies.

anyways, our goal for this game was for shadow to go econ while gauntlet and hobo massed LRMs. This went awry when rokkit, therlun, and conan massed at the top and began to push. I left shadow to do his own thing while I moved to support Gauntlet and Hobo up top. While I wasnt able to do much at first, hobo and gauntlet's quick thinking allowed them to keep ray from doing much, damaging their cappies in the process, while I researched up to enforcers and then pretty much wiped them out.

I'd expect this kind of thing from some people, but not two long time beta testers bitter about losing some games. If you want to complain about anything, make the 200th "This unit is overpowered" thread instead of trolling in this one.

Sounds like this was a good match, I'll watch the replay when I get home :)

I played too... :P and would like to add to eets comment.

Indeed I got a good economy up and managed to build a big fleet of heavy cruisers and hoshinkos. However it was too late. The Fleets of my northern allies were all but destroyed already by the early(-er) cruisers of eets and his allies fleets.
In the end I got the best economy (if i remember the graphs correctly), but contributed the least because when I was able to present a sizable fleet of advanced ships the game was pretty much over.

I also did a tactical mistake and lost most of my early LRM fleet because I didnt recognize Hobos fleet as hostile. :P

It is good news to see the community finally had a real event. I look forward to reading all the AAR from both sides. Anyway, you guys forced me to get off my ass and get the archives going. So you will find the record here.

Im not saying what you can and cannot build, but i just find it "funny" after i told you about the imbalance i believe is there, and the next replay i see, you use it.
But yes you didnt do it 100% right, but that does not make it less "funny"

What are you talking about? You make it sound like it have something to do with losses, which it does not FYI. I thought i made that clear elsewhere..

Why do you have to rediculise the entire thing? I would have expected different from a long beta tester as yourself.

cause i definitely hadnt done it before, nor had i see other players use it, you were definitely the first person.

also, just because you believe it is imba, doesnt mean it automatically is

I might just have to join a guild for one of these... ew...

shoddy cant have an opinion in this one, since he would have to agree with either me or multi, both of which would be intolerable for him :D

9 outta 10 times, I'd bet its unstoppable in a 3v3 and up team game. Time will tell. But when it all comes down to it, we all know who cried IMBA first, me and multi!

Anyway, it was a good replay, and nice to see the other team surrender and not drag it out.

lordkosc here is a hint, the other side had no bombers!

was a fun game for sure and i hope to be involved in many more with GE clan or others

The point is it's incredibly and utterly rude to barge into an AAR thread for a game you didn't play and insult any team by saying they had a free win because they got "insert overpowered ship of the day" tech.
