Sins Counters Update

I originally made a large post regarding counters, ship weapon damage, armor type etc on February 2nd in this thread

https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=402&aid=174192.

I just wanted to let everyone know that as of v1.02 you can view basic, rule of thumb, counter information by hovering over the button to build a given ship. Ed has also drawn up a diagram, shown below, that attempts to summarize some of this information for the TEC. Please, don’t take it as a exact representation – the counter system is very context dependent and there is no ‘best answer’ to any given situation but this will give you an idea of where to start.

I've noticed quite a few posts regarding putting together stats tables and such, and it made me wonder why there was no strategy guide available for this game. I realize that without a single-player campaign it would be rather short, but that should make it cheaper to produce. And there would only be room for strategy tips and charts and tables, which are mostly used by hardcore gamers, but hardcore gamers are also the only people who buy strategy guides anyway. I know this is a bit of a ramble, but it was just a thought that I had.

Strategy guides are written by outside companies, not the company itself. Since this game wasn't a "blockbuster" (as defined by: being done by a "major" corporation, in a format that has been done before, but not to death, and with relatively high system requirements to drive a "next gen" graphics engine) it mostly got ignored.

I don't know if it got completely ignored. I found it in a lot of gaming magazines, and I recall first hearing about it in Game Informer, which gave it quite the glowing review.

True, but think about the difference between the "hype" level of this game, and something like Crysis, Starcraft II, etc etc.

Yes, the game magazines have been all over it -- but it still doesn't have the "hype" level. Which leads to problems, like the complete lack of a EU publisher. Why? Because "space games don't sell well in germany" -- a huge part of the EU market.

Yes I suppose you're right, the next shooter with the same features and better graphics always gets the widest reception. It's unfortunate that the industry forgets that even companies like Bungie started off making games in a computer station set up in one of their founder's garage before they got to Halo and Microsoft.
