Oh the joys of getting past the Chesapeake or Potomac (depending on which media outlet was talking about these) primaries that happened yesterday. (By the way, not that I want to digress too much here, but why not call them the Chesapeake and Potomac primaries as a nice compromise you local media weenies??)
Now that the primaries in Maryland, D.C. and Virginia are done, the TV watching enjoyment factor is sure to improve by leaps and bounds, along with the radio listening factor (no, I'm not talking about O'Reilly's Radio Factor program
) thanks to the now pretty much total abscence of the deluge of political ads that had been running.
Ads for Hillary? GONE! (much like the legitimacy of her candidacy which continues to slip away, but that was a topic for this article: Note to Hillary...)
Ads for Obama and the Change that he has been promising? Gone. Gee, already he's delivering a change on my radio and TV. How nice of the man.
Ads for McCain and Huckabee? Also gone.
For the next several months I can sit back and enjoy tolerate regular commercials for a change. Commercials for cars, banks, beverages, food, realtors, whatever. Everyday things, rather than the nuisance of the ads for these politicians that were flooding the airwaves with their political messages.
While I'm sure the TV and Radio execs, or at the very least the accountants that work for them, are sad to see these ads gone now, as a listener or TV watcher I'm much happier with the (relative) blessed silence we now have. I just hope it lasts for a few good months before the general election advertisements come back to make me miserable again.
