Question & Proposal: Single Player Campaign

Because this game deserves one

Recently got the game, utterly utterly loved it to death - to the point where I think it's going to replace my Team Fortress 2 addiction for the most part. Now just need to find someway to send money to Stardock so I can actually get a serial to get patches and play online    (yes I'm a dirty pirate, but this is a game that I'm absolutely willing to pay for if I could find it in stores in the UAE - which it isn't :( )

What I liked most about the game though is really the intro - it holds so much potential for an awesome sci-fi / opera story that it's a really big disappointment when you finally get in the game and find out there's nothing. Its like being told there is cake, but then end up being baked :(

Anyways, enough babbling. To summarize the entire post I have two questions:

1. Is there any event editor that can be used in the game at all to make custom scenarios and setup pre-scripted events in the game? I've seen the Map Editor, but it doesn't really lend itself to the kind of events scripting I'm thinking of (especially since I dont want to dwelve into programming and source codes [my programming skills = 0]), so just wanted to ask before I go hit my desk in shame for not knowing C++ or whatever the game is programmed in :(

and

2. Assuming there is, would anyone be willing to help out with or even be interested in a single player campaign for the game? I'm going to write out the story and stuff as well as familiarize myself with the map controls, but would appreciate some help in the forms of playtesters or hell, someone who'd just read the darn story and tell me how bad it sucks if nothing else

Any answers or suggestions to the above would be deeply appreciated. :D

With Many Thanks,
Alternate22

There is no "script engine" but you can make maps with specialized conditions. It's unfortunate, I know, but that's life.

Indeed, that's incredibly unfortunate. Well, guess I'll fiddle around with the map editor for now at least, try to learn that properly and get working maps up if nothing else. Script editor would make it soooo much nicer though, :(

Just to clarify, if nobody turns up I'll probably be doing most of the work myself - I've done mods and campaigns before (did a few somewhat marginally succesfull ones for Freespace 2 all on me own), even if it means dragging my sorry ass into IT class and learning C or C++ to do it so that's not exactly a fair assumption to suddenly make :p :<

Although not entirely too unaccurate either <_< *flees*

Heh, I wouldn't mind if I could use some custom DLLs, but it looks like we're stuck with the .entity format. Which is OK, cause you can build some pretty neat stuff in the abilities.

Yea, there is no script engine to do story or anything. I think one of the devs said that they MIGHT and I stress the word MIGHT add the scripting to an update down the road.

The expansion however will have a story campaign to fill everyone about what is happening.

Not to be a Jerk or anything, but did you consider buying it online? This is a great company, and if we gamers want these awesome games with no annoying copy protection code, shouldn't we support them?

They'll get the same amount of money if you buy it off the shelf. Stardock's publishing the retail version as well.

Indeed buying online is the same. So buy. Although no SP campain for me is a kill, cause i dont like MP. Hopefully in the expansion, well have a campain.

Agreed, but the TC said he/she was playing the game w/ out buying it at all. As the TC wrote:

So I was just asking why the person wouldn't buy it online, since it sounds like he wants to give StarDock some money, but never bought the game. Maybe I'm misreading something here. . .

@Shadow_Warrior: Thanks mate. Glad to know that they at least have plans for a SP storyline down the road. I guess I can wait till then for it :D

Let me make this clear: I *want* to support Stardock and dont mind paying at all. In fact, in the UAE they pretty much double the price of games - the stores would charge ~ $80 to buy Sins of a Solar Empire here if it came out - but I'd still support it nonetheless, just like I did Overlord and a fair few other games.

Buying online is an option; save the lack of a credit card to pay with, however - I had one a while back for EVE-Online, but its gotten invalid since then and can no longer use it. My relatives are paranoid about the internet and honestly so am I, so generally like to avoid using it there. :s

I *could* order it from one of the stores, but that makes it prohibitively expensive too, so meh, can't really afford it right now - although later might be a possibility, should I get a CC. :s

Cool.
Again, I wasn't trying to be rude or anything, just wanted to make sure you were aware of the other options to purchase w/out access to the retail version.

You don't need one :) You can pay with Paypal, or if that's not even an option send an email to [email protected] and ask about other options.. :)

You could probably get one of those check cards that you put money on and can only spend that specific amount. I am sure American Express offers one as well as Visa. That way you wouldn't have to worry about someone finding out your information and your money would be safe. Definitely try to get the game, if Galactic Civ is any indication Stardock and Ironclad are experts at supplying constant updates and tweaks to their games.
