Still no way to increase # of ships?

Is there anyway to remove the cap at 2000 (2300) ships? This may be good for small-medium maps, but for huge maps this is hardly enough to defend yourself. I know I've read in some posts that you can change something in the game file on the wordpad, but some people say it doesn't work. Do I have to wait for a mod or can this simply be modfied in the game file?

Modifying the value in the constants file will remove the cap, but it won't do much good without being able to edit the research entities to increase them as well. So you will need to wait for the appropriate specs/forge tools for entity editing to be released.

A very bad and strange OVERSIGHT.

Unrivaled Scale.??????????????

Hardly. Guess we will have to be patient.

*sigh*
see, I tried to complain about this. the game becomes prohibitively large on the scale where the game *used* to be best.

that the files are moddable at all (let alone with strange hullaballo about modding a dozen different files) is irrelevant, the game comes in an incomplete package.

I'm going to petition to have this max cap removed, or at least to have options to play it on a grander scale (if resources can be switched between high and low, it shouldnt be an issue with these researches)

Agree... for fun I fired up a 7 star game with 100's of planets and lots of pirate bases but just one other enemy on a custom map. Besides facing the AI player within a half hour it seemed (wtf???) and ships in every system that was habitable (again, wtf... and this happens on any map, even pre-made ones), I found that once I had conquered the first system I was maxed fleet wise and there was no way to conquere any more systems... heck, if I took just a few ships from my first system I could count on the enemy AI immediately attacking with a maxed out fleet, and if I split them up a bit more I could count on him chasing my fleets all over and raiding the snot out of my core star system and it's worlds at the same time... neither of use could pin the other down in anyway to win because you simply can't outbuild the other nor have enough ships to do the job.

sounds like you are talking about militia.

Sooooo those Forge Tools still aren't out yet? I mean there still is no way to increase the number of ships per player?

On huge maps I don't defend my planets with fleets. I max tactical slots on each planet, max hangers around a repair bay, then move my fleet on to colonize the next planet. Expand, expand, expand, and take the fight to the enemies doorstep. I usually have four fleets, each centered around a colonizing cap ship going.

Remember that the AI is playing with the same limitations that you are. Figure out how to take his systems faster than he can take yours and it's very hard to lose.

By the same token, if you try and turtle up on a huge map, the AI is going to expand and get way ahead of you economically. Once he does that there is no top limit on number of ships that will save you.
