Multiplayer Matchmaking

I figure this might be a volume issue (not enough people playing yet to implement it) or something I just haven't figured out how to do, but I really like the "hit a button and play a game" aspect of WarCraft III online. I would like to choose the number of players/teams, a few maps I don't like and hit "search" and have it find other people who had entered compatible criteria.

Hosting/joining is fine, but it's quite possible for too many people to "lurk" and not host, or too many people to always host because they don't want to search through games. I just don't think it's as efficient.

Finally, and this is totally my problem, I tend to dislike joining games with titles I don't like or spelling/punctuation issues. Matchmaking gets me past that so I just have fun. I suppose some sort of medication could also get me past it, but I'd much rather make you guys work.

I could really only see matchmaking working really well for 1v1. But what about the options? Each person would have there own preference for research speeds and game speed etc. Then you would have to agree on a map for it to choose one.

I just dont think that Sins is the game that this would work with. There are many variables that can make it difficult to get a match up.

I think you have to limit the variables allowed for matchmaking to be practical. In Battle.net, every play got to choose a limited number of maps they didn't like, and the game randomly chose one that wasn't on any of those lists. I don't recall how it handled game speeds.

If people wanted to use custom maps or non-default values for advanced options (research, artifacts, etc) they'd probably have to use the standard host/join system--I'm not suggesting it be removed. I just think a matchmaking system would be a nice addition for people wanting to play with standard settings on standard maps.
