how can i change the fleet limit?

i would like to raise the population cap of fleets but i dont know how. with the current cap in games where i have to fight a multi front war there just is not enough to go around even though i have the money to build many many more. what do i need to do in order to increase this. and can i make it in a way thats easy to install to send it to friends? i dont know much of anything when it comes to modding this game.

there are probably some things that can be done in the Gameplay.constants file but for the most part modding anything in general is out of the question until stardock releases the forge tools since their files are in binary form.

Go to Research and from there to the logistics

Edit
Sorry now i saw that you were talking about modding

You can change stuff in gameplay constants file, but that doesn't really seem to do anything. My guess is you would have to change the fleet logistics research options to increase the amount of fleet supply you get. Like kcissem said, that would require the forge tools.

The variable in the Gameplay.constants file being mentioned (maxShipSlots) appears to be a global cap on total ships in a game. We need either the Forge Tools, or the base text file versions of the files that are currently in binary format to be released to change this.

As the Forge Tool suite appears to not be ready yet, could we get the current 1.02 Gameinfo folder text files released as a stop gap measure for those of us that want to start modding?

Also don't forget that if you increase the pop cap that the AIs will simply increase their own fleets as well. Though on the other hand from what I've seen, from the five or so games I've played, the AI seems to group together the vast majority of their fleet towards the end and hit you planet by planet in a very methodical fashion, and hardly ever has subsidiary fleets of any real size or consequence. So that might stop them rushing you with multiple huge fleets, on the other hand it won't stop them rushing you with a single vast fleet. And if you're playing a large map it won't stop all the surviving AIs hitting you with vast fleets. ;) But then again the frantic rushing around trying to defend your territory whilst choosing your own targets of attack very carefully is part of what makes the game so fun.

2000 ships slots (or 2300 as Vasari) isn't enough? That's an aweful lot of starships you know. :)
