GameSpy has just posted their initial pre-review of Sins of a Solar Empire stating, "If all strategy games sinned this much, the world would be a much better place."

You can read the full article at:

Editor's Note: The on-line issue he ran into (and us too) has been fixed internally and should be up in a few days. The issue was that games in progress didn't always disappear from the available games list with users getting a "Rejected by host" message. Since we're so used to rejection as a general thing we didn't realize what the problem was until it was too late. :)

Unfortunely, due to the recent advertising scandal and the firing and resignations of editors and writers, I can't take Gamespy as a legitimate review source anymore.

Although it's great that they covered the game and gave it a positive review. Ironclad could've got a perfect 10 for Sins if they paid for lots of advertisement. I'm glad they didn't waste their money. Sins will be the indie hit of the year.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking GameSpot.

What happened with them?

The gist of the gamespot thing was they had a ton of ads up for the game Kane and Lynch: Dead Men. Their chief review guy gave it a 6 out of 10, and really bashed it on the video review. Word comes down the pipe later that he's apparently been fired/quit/something. Everyone assumes it has to do with the bad review and the money paid for advertising etc.

Holy smokes. I never heard that before, and to think I thought of them very highly before... hopefully it's just a rumor though...

"game with the scope and strategic depth of a turn-based 4X conquer-the-universe game and the immediacy and excitement of a real-time strategy title."

That's sums it up well I think.

Gamespot's been losing more staff since the "scandal," it's not a good situation over there right now.

Yet another senior reviewer quit GS last week to boot.
