Game Designer Chris Sawyer, the original designer behind Atari's 1999 RollerCoaster Tycoon sleeper hit, has finally seen an end to the lawsuit he filed against the troubled company in 2005. The suit which focused on the Atari failing to pay Sawyer his royalties, to the sum of $4.8 million according to documents, has been settled out of court.
Since its release in 1999 RollerCoaster Tycoon has spawned two sequels and multiple expansion packs, racking in the money for Atari. Sawyer's suit claimed that the royalties owed to him amounted to over $30 million of the $180 million in revenue Atari made on his titles.
Terms of the settlement are confidential and thus have not been released publicly but it appears that Atari's new CEO, David Gardner, may already be on the move to try and clean-up the publisher's image. A step in the right direction for one of gaming's oldest names, even if it isn't in its original form.
