Sins of a Solar Empire Retail Launch

The roll-out begins!

Yesterday saw the digital launch of Sins of a Solar Empire.  Today begins the official retail launch of the game.

The following retailers should have Sins of a Solar Empire on the shelf starting today or by the end of the week:

  • Best Buy (launched at 2pm today)
  • EB
  • Gamestop
  • Target
  • Circuit City
  • Walmart
  • Fry's

Regardless of where you buy the game, you'll get the full direct digital service from Stardock. That means you'll be able to re-download your game on Stardock Central (and soon Impulse) even if you lose your DVD. In fact, once you've created an account, you'll be able to re-download the entire game even if you lose the DVD and serial # and everything else.

And just as we do with our other games, we plan to provide frequent updates based on player suggestions and feedback. These updates are not required to play (except for on-line games of course for synchronizing reasons) so if you don't want to update, you don't have to.

Here are some highlighed screenshots from the launch:

That has to be a good feeling though. I'm really hoping that I will not have to drive everywhere to find it.

Stopped by the local GameStop last night (02-04-08) and they said Sins would be in tomorrow. I paid for a copy in advance then and there and I'm glad I did... today when I went in to pick it up, the guy said he only got the one copy in their shipment. And now it's mine! :CONGRAT:

It's looking great so far after doing the tutorials. Thanks again, StarDock. :HOT:

My local gamestop only had one copy in as well. They hadnt even unpacked the boxes when I got it. I was quite surprised considering they usually get more than one game even if it is a lesser know title.

I walked out a happy customer with a copy of sins in one hand and a used copy of Burnout 2 for PS2 to complete my burnout collection in the other.

EB Canada, in Vancouver, BC says the game is going to be on their shelves this fri. the 8th. Wish I could just walk into Ironclad and buy the game being that they're right here in this city. ugh.

I checked at the EB in Metrotown yesterday - they told me the same thing :)

Does anyone know if Canadian Walmart stores will have Sins, and when?

They should have it, but I don't know when. Probably later this week.

Thanks. I've never liked an RTS before but this looks interesting. I've had such a good experience with Stardock and GalCiv2 that I'm willing to buy Sins just on general principle :)

EB Games in Winnipeg keep telling me the 8th as well. :(

So how do you think I, and other Aussies feel? April the 18th? Come on!
Not that I'm complaining to you guys - rather, I'm annoyed at Auran. *shakes fist*

I got mine at Best Buy last night. They had about a half a dozen. Couldn't find it at first because they put it with the MMORPGs and not with the strategy games. Of course for some stupid reason they have The Sims in strategy, and I admit it would've been preposterous to have "Sins" next to "Sims".

If your willing to spend a few extra bucks, try direct download + Dvd copy. Stardock central is pretty easy to use, and you still get that back up copy. Hey think about it this way, what you spend on shipping, you save on gas...

Still no sign of it in Canada. (:(
Retail is the suck, but I don't want to pay an insane shipping fee and the same price for a download as it is for the boxed copy.

do you guys know, when it lauches in Europe? I live in the Netherlands and I can't find when it launches in my country. I've heard a rumor that it doesnt come out in Europe at all!!! This would be a disaster!

I live in the UK, cant find it anywhere. Play.com dont have it, GAME (the UK arm of EB) dont have it, so please enlighten me.

I realise us UK gamers regularly get screwed over by US games companies, but at least give us a clue.

Unfortunately, Stardock has been having difficulties finding a publisher/distributor for Europe. They've been told by numerous publishers over there that Europeans "aren't interested" in space games, and so no one wants to publish Sins.  :(  So if you want to be able to see Sins in retail shops, start complaining to Paradox and the rest of the major game publishers/distributors -- let them know you're sick of us Americans and Canadians being the only ones who can buy the game from stores!

In the meantime, however, you guys do have the option of purchasing the game from Stardock directly. You can choose have the boxed version shipped to you (for an extra $20.00 or so), or you can also simply buy the download version.  :)

and thats not what I want. I want it to be in stores where i can hold it and see it myself. And i absolutely want a boxed version, not a download, 20$ is just to much. I don't get the publishers in europe, why wont we be interested in these games. Germany has more fansites than all other countries around the world.

I feel for you Lennaertdejoing :(  I've visited a lot of those German sites dedicated to SINS. I'ts a shame the enthusiasm isn't recognized by distributers just yet.

Best I've seen so far for the boxed (non collectors) edition is $40 + $20 shipping (to Germany; UK is $16, so a bit cheaper for me) from EB Games / Gamestop online. which is about 41 euros or £30, not too expensive but not too cheap either. Unfortunately quite a few US shops won't ship to the UK and I presume mainland europe. :(

It's damned painful, and I can't imagine it's any more fun for the developers to see the demand go unmet than it is for europeans to struggle to get the game.

I hope they will find it out before the end of the month. maybe they are allready talking to some publishers. It would be very painfull, if they won't get this game to europe, its the first good space real time strategy game. No game is like this one and can compete with it. We need this in Europe.... I hope that ironclad sees this and can say this to some ignorent publishers. If they can give like 5 reasons, why we dont 'like' these kind of games in Europe. BUT THEY CAN'T. There is no reason, why not to publish this game in Europe.

yours sincerely,

I randomly spotted it at best buy-- there was a long haired comp sci graduate student with one copy in his hands, drooling over the box. Chatted him up-- he assured me it wouldn't go down like the second biggest dissapointment in my life (MOO3) or the biggest dissapointment in my life (SC3). So i picked it up, ran the tutorial, looks like it will be a lot of fun ;)

Looking at my lifes dissapointments, i guess ive lived a pretty nice life.
