Editing *.entity files

For some reason I can't open entity files in notepad anymore. Its all jumbled up. What gives?

yeah, i noticed that too. i think it's because they'll release editors, and there's a good reson to obfuscate them. shame, i liked notepad modding :SNIFF!:

It's not gone. The rest of the modding kit will solve the problem for you (and more) - we just haven't uploaded it yet :)

Yah, they're in binary for release. There will be editors released soon though, don't worry.

okay, sweet, thanks a ton! Oh, and i love the advent.

They are in binary purely for optimization reasons. There is no purposeful obfuscation.

yeah, i understand that. i had one hell of a time writing a parser that wouldn't hold a candle to yours, and it was hideously inefficient.

So is there an ETA for the release of the mod tools?

Why must every developer kill everything that works. There wasn't anything wrong with using notepad to modify the files.

This is pretty sad I'm now bored with this game.

... You do realize the reason they did this was to decrease load times, right? Nothing "wrong"... but once they upload the mod tools, no big deal anyway.

Go spend a day or two playing the game before you throw a fit over not having the mod tools -- you should know what it is your modding before you try to mod it, anyway!

I've been in the Beta program since July i've played the game for more then a day or two  ;p .

In addition I know exactly what i wanna mod i wanna mod the game back to the way I had it.

I understand that you must compress the game enough to be downloadable. However the gameinfo folder at the max was 5 meg.

I think there just trying to help Rogaine by makeing everyone pull there hair out.

P.S. Your right it's no big deal but I've been waiting since July everything should of been released on the same day.

It's not about download size, it's about how long it takes to load stuff *in the game*. Binary is significantly faster than text in that respect.

Can you please release them already... I'm just a noob when it comes to modding. I need editors. PLEASE.. Pretty please with a side of Patron on the Rocks.

i'm with you, was hoping to see the tools available when i got home from work today. I already have a few things i'd like to do but need the tools to access the files that are binary. Luckily i have patience to just keep clicking reload on the download page :P

I never had any problem loading the game, it loads faster then any other game I have and I have a ton of them.

I agree 99.9 percent with you Kcissem however I no longer have patience. I'm a Grand theft auto fan any patience I have for games has been murdered by waiting.

Just send us the decompressing kit you guys use lol no need to put a bow on it. :CONGRAT:

The delay is that we want to get v1.02 out first (probably tommorow) so that the modding data files are up to date and the mod loading bug is fixed.

I can confidently state that they are hard at work crushing bugs -- and that however long the patch takes, it'll be that much better for the time they took.

I'm sure they are hard at work on the patch and you are right, but i'm more interested in the forge tools then anything else.  ;)

I've just got the 1.02 update, it's time for the new tools now. ;)

If they would just post the txt files to start with, I'd be happy. A converter isn't strictly necessary...

Good point. Any chance we can get someone to put the 1.02 text versions of the files up for download so those of us interested can start tinkering with things?

i don't know why they just can't release the txt versions in zip format for now while
the other stuff is being worked on, i wish they would. They are sure making it hard right now to mod a game that was touted to be so moddable.

I think that they want to make sure the game is running correctly before they shift some of there energy into the mod tools.
