'X3: Terran Conflict' Returns Players To The Milky Way

Space Combat Trilogy Coming to a Close

X3: Terran Conflict has been announced by developer Egosoft today, bringing a close to the series' trilogy. The standalone expansion to X3: Reunion marks the fourth or fifth title in the franchise, depending on the way you count each release but who's counting. Despite the -olgy misnomer X3: Terran Conflict is expected to launch into orbit in Q3 2008.

The newest title won't go to far from the Milky Way though. Egosoft has decided to keep the space combat inside Earth's own solar system and reveal the changes in our terra-frima over the years. X3: Terran Conflict will also be loaded with more missions than any other X3 title.

"We look forward to adding another successful chapter to the X story, together with Koch Media," says Bernd Lehahn, Managing Director of Egosoft.

That series would be brilliant if only they would make the combat fun. I wonder if this time they'll finally do it.

I'm not a space jock, so I found the combat frustratingly hard, especially in the early ships you can afford. Then I modded in some powerful ships I could afford and the combat was way more fun and less frustrating, and I could concentrate on exploration and trade empire building.
