Is it possible to do this......

Hello,

First thing first. Sorry if this has been anwsered allready but I didn't find any refrence so far.

Now the question.

In prmo videos, in order to conquer the planet you have to bomb the hell out of it. However there is no troop ship nor troop invasion. I know that this is only space strategy based game but I had few ideas when I saw the zoom things of yours.

Will it be possible to zoom in completly into the planet atmosphear and all down to the ground so we can actually see the surface. Once we see the surface we could launch ground forces to wage the battle on it and capture the planet.

The way I see things are.

1. We keep one map but we increse the power of the zoom level.

2. All units except the ground units are prohibited from entering planet's atmosphear (maybe fighters and bombers should be able to do it only. Logical test should be if unit > fighter class then send collision 1 else send collision 0

3. Ground units are transported in the invasion crafts which are stored on capital ships. Something like fighters are transported at the moment

4. Ground units could be produced and stored on the planet

5. Not to have have spamming fest like in Imperium Galactica 2 Ground units should be tied to the ground personnel manpower support meaning that you need men and women to actually fight.

This is just an idea of myn and all I'm really intrested is to know will the engine allow me to increase the zoom level and will I be able to give real life to planets.

If not then may be we could use transport pods instead missiles to simulate the ground combat.

Thank you.

Unfortunately, that's a no to both questions - there are no troop transports/ground invasions, and you can't zoom in to see the planet surface in the way you imagine it.

But conquering a planet through culture is certainly an option, and one i'm doing quite often in Beta 4. Each playable race has a structure that "broadcasts" their culture along phase lanes, when your influence over them exceeds their loyalty, voila, conquered colony. You will need to clean up the enemies orbital structures, since those remain, as will any ships he has in the system.

Yes Annatar11 Iknow it. This is why asked the question in the modding forums. All I want to know is will the engine allow me to do something like this.

Ah, apologies, I misread ;)

It would cetianly be a cool idea for a mod if possible. Not sure if the game could be modded that far though...

Dawn of Victory is going to have a modification of the ground bombing system where troops are sent down to the planet, but this will only be made clear through gunfire and sound effects and perhaps some particle effects. A zoom-in level is really unfeasible at this stage.
