Can we mod in more than 3 playable factions?

As the title says. Im a modeler, not a coder. So i am asking the code monkeys if this can be done.

The Devs have confirmed that it can be done.

It has been done. just add a new Player(name).entity with all the stuff and fix all the references, and change the home planet entries in the .galaxy file you want.

Thanks for the quick response. So if 10 players in MP is the max, then 10 separate factions in theory can be done.

Um... not quite. What he's reffering to is the fact that "homeplanets" have various items "pre-added" to them in the map file. The shipyards and the like don't come "free", you see, they have to be set on a per-map basis.

exactly, thanks ron. The homeworlds come with a set package of stuff for any player of that race, and you have to say what it is.

What i need to know is "if" we can add in a full blown playable faction on top of the existing 3. If 3 playable factions is the limit that will hamper many mods.

You can.

There is no limit to the number of factions. Go to town! :)

Don't believe him. There are two limits on the number of factions:

1) If you make too many, people will grow brain stems clicking through them.

2) Boredom.

3) This space reserved for hardware.

heh

I want to see someone make a floodlike faction, lots of very cheap units with a carrier-biased frigate/capital ship basis.

hrm... that sounds so amazing, if a bit unoriginal.
