All I can say is ........HELP!!

I bought cursor fx last week and I am about crazy trying to get it to work. I can't download cursors into fx. I just got a pop up that said I couldn't upload cursor plus cursors into cursor fx. So is there a separate site to download the cursors for cursor fx? I uninstalled and re installed both stardock central and cursor fx, and took cursor plus off completely, but still no luck. What am I doing wrong??? :SNIFF!:

Cursor fx is the newest beta and is designed to be compatible with Vista. The cursor theme files are indicated as Cursor fx. I don't think you can use Cursor xp files in Cursor fx. You also should only install and use either Cursor fx or Cursor xp. Don't install both. So, if you are going to use Cursor fx make sure you only download Cursor fx themes.

sparklplenty downloading is a little different using CursorFX. Open it up, click on more cursors, than click on the link to WinCustomize.com. Find a cursor you want click on it and download it. Go back into the main page for CursorFX and you should see that your cursor is there.

If that doesn't work, unintall CursorFX thru SDC, run a registry cleaner program if you have one, reboot and reinstall and reboot once more. If that doesn't work then you should email [email protected]. One other thing, if you had CursorXP installed, uninstall that before reinstalling CursorFX.

Hope that helps. Post back and let us know.

Yes you can.

Don't install both.

Both can be installed but you can only run one or the other.

BigDogBigFeet like most folks, first time through using a new program, I had the same problem. Then you stare at the page a minute and do a Homer Simpson, DOH!

I had read in another thread where a Stardock Dev advised against this. CursorXP wants to set itself to autoload at startup, I think that's the reason for the advice.

BigDogBigFeet I think you were going to have them both installed one of them needs to be set to default, which is another Homer Simpson moment, DOH.

I believe there are only a couple here at WC, they state in the description for CFX.
All the cursor sets here can be used with CFX.

If the cursor sets can be used with CFX, why can't I get them to load. I have used all the suggestions here. Was I premature in buying this app? I have XP, but this seemed like a fun thing to do with my cursors :SNIFF!:

sparklplenty, If you followed what suggestions we gave and it still doesn't work, the only thing left if to email [email protected].

Just for the heck of it go through the steps of what you did. Include the uninstall etc., also take me through how you download a new cursor. I know that sounds silly, but a lot times we miss something or do it out of order. We might find the problem.

Didn't ask this before, what OS are you running. I'm running XP.

You could try using Windows to get things going. Go to the sub-directory where your downloaded file is using explorer. Most CXP themes are downloaded as a zip file. When you find the right file click on it to open the zip file. When you see the file marked CXP theme right click on it and choose the open with command. This will bring up a windows dialogue box which allow you to tell windows what program to use to open the CXP theme. Make sure you click on the always use this program to open this type of file option and then click on the browse button. Now navigate to CursorFX and you're home free. This method always works(when done right). CursorFX is probably located in one of these 2 locations C:\program files\stardock\cursorfx or c:\program files\cursorfx. Please note by selecting the previously mentioned option to "always use this program to open these type of files, Windows should then open your downloaded CXP theme files into CursorFX just by clicking on them.

I am almost ashamed to let anyone know how dumb I am about all of this. Always before I just buy the program, download it ..... and it runs! I have completely uninstalled all of my stardock applications....except the un install program wouldn't work on the cursor fx. I had to hunt down every instance of it and delete it. I reinstalled everything, including cursor fx and the VERY SAME THING HAPPENS! (excuse me for screaming) I spent the whole evening working on this (when I could've and should've been doing something else. Why is this program not working for me? I have made every cursor I have downloaded to open with cursor fx. I did note that on the email that gave me the serial number and link to download fx, that it said upgrade. Does this mean I need cursor xp on my machine also? I promise to go away if I can just get a handle on this. Should I try to get a refund on this program? What could I possibly be doing wrong?

Ok I just tested downloading a cursorxptheme to folder, downloading with Firefox I always open with CursorFX and it works fine. Double clicking did not work but no error message, right click open with, even though CursorFX was at top of list it would not open but again no error just nothing. Move the cursorxptheme to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes , then open CursorFX and it will be in the list.

No. You don't need Cursor XP also.

What could I possibly be doing wrong?

You're not from what it sounds. CursorFX looks for it's themes by default in the sub-directory indicated by Cavan1: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes. It sounds to me like something isn't working right with the install or running of the program. Please keep in mind Cursor FX is new and you may have other software running that won't play nice with Cursor FX.

Don't pull all your hair out over it. If what Cavan1 suggests doesn't work send an email to [email protected]. I don't know if you are using Stardock Central(it's free) to manage your Stardock programs, but it's a good idea to use it. Here is a link for an article on how to use SDC WWW Link. Here is a link for downloading Stardock Central
WWW Link

In any case please be patient. You've gotten as much help from the community as we can give. Email [email protected], if you have any further problems.

Technically FX is in beta. The full updated release is in a few days. We will of course help you through support but when the full version comes out I would highly suggest uninstalling what you have now, restarting, then installing the full version.

I have uninstalled Cursor FX and went back to Cursor XP Plus. I sent this transcript to Stardock customer service, but have not received a reply yet. I hate that I am losing the use of the cursor I purchased. It seems so neat. One question though, will the cursors in the Cursor XP Pro automatically become FX if downloaded with that software? Or do you have to download a cursor that is specifically made for that program? I do want to thank EVERYONE for their generous help. Ya'll are the BEST.  ;)

sparklplenty have you tried the most recent update for CursorFX? All the bugs that were there do seem to be fixed now. Give it a try, remeber we are all here to help if we can. It is a nice upgrade to the normal cursor functions. ;)

Let us know if you have trouble with the formal release (QA testing willing) next week. Take care!

Not all my cursor xp themes work in cursor fx. I think I should uninstall fx and go back to xp. There are many more xp themes than fx.

I FINALLY got them to work! I had to reinstall my computer to get them to work, but I probably messed everything with multiple downloads of cursorfx, trying to get them to work. But I love the effect. Just a little more pizzaz!!
