Anybody ever been wipped out by spys? I just had a challenging game were it stated raining spys. I was near the top in research and had a mid-pack military, my economy was struggling due to the cost of ships that were necessary to keep up with the big boys. I had been having troubles keeping up with spys all game. Then at one point i was getting hit with 2 or 3 new spys about every 10-15 turns (and 1 spy mega event). I was cranking out 1 spy of my own about every 15 turns, but couldnt keep up; my economy and moral quickly got flushed, and i ended up retiring because i saw no hope of ever recovering. :SNIFF!:

Build Counter Espionage Centers, which also double as decent morale improvment buildings.

Many times, I've had the Mega-Spy mega-event which rains spies on all planets in the galaxy. Yet nothing happened at all to me because my Counter-Espionage Centers blocked them all off. With CECs on all your worlds, you are invincible against spies.

Just wanted to point out that not all races get counter-espionage centers. I remember one game in particular with the Korath where I consistently had 15 to 20 spies on my planets despite pumping out counter-spies as fast as possible. This often happens on a smaller scale though with the Korath, and it just forces me to wipe out all the good races in the game just to get rid of the spies. The Altarians seem to be more passive-aggresive with their spies from my experience. I can't say I've lost a game because of spies, but they have forced me to become more aggressive though.

Tod Jones, that would only be true in TA and I'm unsure which races would be lacking that tech if so.
