The 2nd "Official" Informal JU Presidential Poll

Who will be the nominee?

The first "poll" we had here on JU was back in late August, and what a bunch of changes and surprises we have had since then.  Fred Thompson's name popped up many times, and since the last poll he has since entered and left the race.

We are now approaching February and the next "big" thing (at least for republicans) seems to be Florida, which could most likely narrow the slim field even more.  Right now, each party is basically down to 3 candidates with two of them on the dem side in a fierce battle with each other.

So with that I wanted to use the 2nd JU poll to see who our readers think will be the nominee of each party. 

Republicans:

  • John McCain
  • Mitt Romney
  • Rudy Guiliani


Democrats:

  • Hillary Clinton
  • Barak Obama
  • John Edwards

I'm going to say it's going to come to McCain and Hillary.

I originally expected Hillary v. Guiliani or Thompson, but now it's looking like Hillary v. *shiver* McCain.

I wouldn't really say that there were a bunch of surprises.  The only one I can really see is Rudy's falling (Thompson was a hope for then, and no chance now).  The democrat side has been fairly bland (not the rhetoric, just the results so far).

Dont know who it is going to be, so I will wait now.  My support is with Romney, but again I can go along with any of the republicans.  On the democrat side, I dont agree with any of them, but at least still respect Obama. Which I have none for the other 2 clowns.

I also think that we're going to end up with McCain and Hillary, although I would probably be ok with Romney also.

It'll be McCain vs Hillary, with Ron Paul filling the Ross Perot/Ralph Nader 3rd party slot.

I think Romney will manage to win the Republican nod, though there's just something about him that reminds me too much of Bill Clinton for me to warm up to him. My preference right now is probably Rudy first, McCain second, I don't know on third base, but I'll probably not get either of those to vote for.

Anybody got someone to suggest a write-in campaign for?

McCain vs Hillary... If its not McCain, I will throw a tantrum and vote for Hillary.

I'm an independent with Dem leanings but Conservative views ( Military, Immigration, Fiscal issues) and I'm active duty military so I had to request a primary ballot for Illinois and I choose Dem for the primary where I will vote for Obama.

If McCain gets the GOP nom, I would probably vote for him even over Obama. I just don't want Hillary to get the Dem nod.

Last election I went Bush over Kerry (that was a tough one, I am no Bush fan, but Kerry "was scary")

My hope is Obama vs McCain.

It'll probably end-up: Hillary vs McCain.....Which is a no-brainer for me McCain in '08!!!!!

McCain vs. Obama.

There are too many male chauvinists who will never let Hillary be the nominee. This is kind of a fluke, right now. Obama's going to be the next president of the United States. If I'm right, can I have a cookie?

I hope Obama gets in. It's either him or Hillary...Edwards doesn't have a shot in hell. Not sure about Republicans...most likely McCain if I had to guess.

I have a feeling it is going to come down to McCain vs Hillary. Obama is the one I want to be president out of all the candidates. If it does come down to McCain vs Hillary, I will hold my nose and vote for McCain.

Out of the Republicans left standing, I'll have to go with Romney.  I can't be excited about him as I was with Thompson, but well, we only get to vote for whose on the ballot.

I'd say I'd vote for McCain over one of the democrats, but it's not like there's any difference there.  McCain/Clinton sounds more like a ticket than a choice.

I also agree with what Zoomba said.  If Ron Paul runs as a thrid party, he will take quite a bit of the far-left and anti-war voters that might vote for Hillary.

Stop that. Claiming that if Hillary loses the nomination it could only be due to sexism is like claiming that the only reason Obama wouldn't get it could only be due to racism.


Yikes, I misspoke. Um, I don't think she's the person who should be president. I don't like her, I don't trust her, and I'm a little scared of her. Um, I've heard some men say stuff like, "she's a woman and shouldn't be in office," or stuff like that, and that's what I was commenting on. I think that sexism is a part of it, but not the only reason. I just think that if it was a hypothetical tie, say, then more men would vote for Obama than Clinton. That DID sound kind of harsh, didn't it? I'll watch my language next time.
