Multi Monitor Support

A whacky idea

Ok, so I'm in the office. I type and code while having a few relevant websites open. I have the connection to our beta server and to our live server with clear separation between the two.

How does this relate to an idea for GC2?

Two monitor setup.

I think GC2 (GC3, non-MoM...) would benefit from such a setup as well. On the first monitor, you have your galaxy view, just like now. On the second monitor, you get the Civ-Manager, the planet screen for the currently selected planet, the diplomacy window or anything else where it makes sense to have a second monitor.

In diplomacy, I'd often like to know where exactly the planets / ships / starbases are I'm trading for.
The civmanager would allow me to see the more details stats and the event log while playing.
The planet view saves me a few clicks and lets me quickly see the type of planet (labs, fac, econ...).

But why stop there?

Take a look at Supreme Commander.

Split Screen.

Have one part of the galaxy (front lines) on one monitor, your production centres or second front on the other. No scrolling, everything you need right there, right now.

I understand that the current implementation of modal windows makes this very hard, but consider it for the next games up the line.

Also, and this is an idea posted before: please, PLEASE make the zoom function so you zoom in on the location of the cursor instead the middle of the screen. Navigation would SO much smoother and faster that way.

Would be useful; split screen moreso than multimonitor as not all of us, even in this day and age, have multiple monitors. Just so long as it's not fixed-while I'd love the ability to take a look at where a planet is, what class it is, etc, while still in the trade screen, I have to admit it would annoy me to no end if I could only ever see the galaxy on half of my screen. And then there's the time I wanted to run two desktops from my one monitor; GCII on one screen and my browser on the other-but I've since switched to windowed mode, which tends to make things a bit easier on me.

Almost everyone has a video card with two monitor outputs.  Zing!  I'm sure our wives will understand the need.:dur:

My wife doesn't (or didn't), but then she uses two seperate computers at her office...  So, you would think she should.

I'm surprised that someone hasn't already written a utility (similar to the Galactopedia) that would allow us to select and access our data in a second screen (even if read only).

I just HAVE to bring this thread back because it'd be freakin cool - Galciv is a game that would benefit hugely from *any* sort of multimonitor support. Would there happen to be any updates or info regarding this?
