The Olympian Gods

Beware Their Wrath

Welcome mortal to Mount Olympus, home of the gods. I, Zeus, have allowed you to journey here to prove your worth and to see if you shall be allowed to join us in the control of the universe.

If you manage to show that you are worthy by achieving 25 victorious battles or 100,000 cumulative points than we have decreed that we will bestow upon you the Glorious Title of Senator.

Let all those that are in our presence tremble and despair. We threw down the mighty Titans and will Prevail in All our Doings.

Some Important Things to Know About This Empire

One doesn't need to be one of the Olympian gods, any character is fine!

This is an Open empire, so anyone can join. I will try to keep up with who is joining so I can send a friendly hello.

Hard work and perseverance pay off. I will award those that accomplish such tasks with a Senator position.

I think it is important and my duty to help new players and learn from veteran players. I promise that this empire is here for the player!

A Little About Your Emperor

SILVERBEACHER (Main Character: Zeus)

Born and raised in Michigan, Silverbeacher, or Silver as he is commonly called, is a college student at Purdue University in Indiana where he is majoring in Political Science and Pre-Law.

He first came into contact with the Galactic Civilization Universe in the summer of 2003, with the first game in the series. He found the game very enjoyable but never did partake in the original Metaverse. A few years later he came across the sequel, Dread Lords, at a local Best Buy, and began trying out the new and improved game.

At first, he never visited the website or the Metaverse, but one day, while seeking answers, he hopped onto the GalCiv2 website and the rest as they say is history.

Almost immediately interested in the Metaverse, he began looking for an empire to join, originally checking out both the Galactic Diplomats and the High Command Hegemony. It was in the threads of the HCH that he came across Neilo and MarshallONeil. Neilo had only recently left the HCH-which had become a very quiet remnant of its former glory-and had formed the Tyranny of Evil.

In the summer of 2007, Silver joined the Tyranny-or ToE as it is often referred to as. Meanwhile, Neilo, had also been appointed the "leader" of a new way of competing against other MV players, the Metaverse League. Silver originally sat out of the MVL, fearing that he was not a good enough player to compete alongside such game greats as MottiKhan and Mumblefratz, but eventually did decide to join in the middle of the third round, where he even managed to get a speed bonus point for his team.

Due to the rapid growth of the MVL, a new team was needed for Round 4, and Silver gladly submitted his name to be the new captain of this team. With this, Team E-or more properly, The Eternal Villainy-, was founded.

Silver had captained the Villainy for three rounds when Commissioner, and fellow Villainy teammate, Neilo, decided to step down from his position as Commissioner of the MVL. At the request of Neilo and others, Silver accepted the nomination to be the new Commissioner of the MVL. After a close, but friendly, election, Silver was named the new "Commish" and Round 7 of the MVL was his first round under his 'leadership'.

It was also at this time that Silver decided to form his own empire, which he named the Olympian Gods. For a while, Silver remained a member of both the ToE and the Olympian Gods but eventually, decided that he wanted to focus all his attention on the MVL and Olympian Gods and so said goodbye to his Tyranny brothers to venture out on his own.

And that is how we say, is that.

So hi to those that visit the newest empire in the MV. I, also a member of the Tyranny and an administrator for the MVL, wanted an empire 1) to call my own and 2) to help in my own personal goals. I started yesterday on working my way toward the very difficult and elusive 1000 games medal. Only another 994 to go :D

It is my hope for my character to achieve all of the medals that are possible.

I don't really expect to skyrocket up the ranks, but hard work and perseverance do pay off.

This is a moderated empire so if you would like to join drop me a line or post and I will be glad to add you.

I don't plan on just handing out Senator positions but I do plan on awarding those that have achieved either high scores (250,000+) or have played multiple games (25+). This will most likely mean that there will be few senators in my empire, and many that want to join an empire just for that may just pass me by. That's ok. Like I said, I'm here to work hard and do my best, and if you want to come along for the ride, more power to you.

May the blessing of the gods go with ye

Ahh brother...it is i...Poseidon, Steward and watcher of the Oracle of Delphi, Protector of conquerers and God of the sea's.

I shall join you in the quest to rule the galaxies as we ruled all the earth. I have sent word to you of my arrival and i await your approval.

Poseidon was taken so i renamed the commissioner, Poseidon..Steward of Delphi. Close enough...

And i notice that you do not meet your own criteria to be a senator!!!! I'd say some evil force weighs heavily upon you for you to be so corrupt!!

Hi!
I started yesterday on working my way toward the very difficult and elusive 1000 games medal.

I play MoO1 for more than 12 years (I'm just finishing one game on my old portable under DosBox), but despite most games were finished in less than 4 hours, I estimate I've played "only" about 400 games. Good luck to your 1000 GC-2 games!

I also put in my request to join your empire (my character is Hades-even among the Gods I am EVIL). I figured this would be a good empire to try my hand at playing all the different civilizations at their normal alignments (so no Evil Terrans here). It may take me a while to do it but since you aren't concerned about shooting up the Empire ranks that will work great for me! Also don't see myself as making Senator (unless I really up my game), but who needs to be a Senator when you're the God of the Underworld!!

And since you wished it.......

 :d

...enjoy!!

Apollo was the watcher of the Oracle of Delphi, not Poseidon. But, whatever.

@Neilo: Cool, for some reason the requests don't seem to be showing up for me (in my email or on here) so I'll just add you manually. Well Zeus always was an arrogant fella, so is it really a surprise? Besides, I'll be at 25 games by dinner tonight.

@Iztok: Thank you so much for your support, I appreciate it.

@AC: I'll add ya to, always gotta have the brother of Zeus help me reign in those pesky mortals. And nice on the pics. :D

@Stykman22: actually, Poseidon was the original caretaker before handing it over to Apollo, but they continued to work in tandem in many things. After offending Zeus, the two were sent to Troy together.

As of last night I had 16 (I only am counting 15 because one shouldn't be posted, somehow a game was double posted), earned my Racial Medal and my Purple Heart (and no Swift Boats coming after me). Today its off to get my 25 Battles and 20 Victories Medal.

But after doing some math...1000 games at degradation and such at 50%, giving an average after calculation score of 5000, would give me 5,000,000 points when I'm done; so we'll see what happens.

You can call me Dionysus. God of wine, party, and fertility. Among other things.

is there really any other thing worth being a god of?

well just counting my and Neilo's scores we're already at #15 on the AltMeta :D

but i MUST reiterate, that while my long-term goal is dominance of the MV and AltMeta; its more about playing the game, having fun, and helping our fellow players.

Uh, Hello? The Underworld!! We have all the coolest people down here!! All those cool dead rockstars and party people keep this place jumpin'.
And now I see I get to welcome Heath Ledger to the party!!! (yeah I know that was kinda mean, but who told him pop all those sleeping pills!) I bet neilo is just DEVASTATED losing a famous Aussie to the Underworld.
My realm grows larger by the day!!!!!!!

Actually, without putting a too fine a point on it...I have not stopped smiling all day!!!

I believed him to be a traitor and as such held no regard for him at all. Not only was he very outspoken about our (Aussie) troop presence in Iraq and Afghanistan he lead various protests after they were deployed.

Now i'm all for protesting against war, in any form, but once the troops of your nation are there shedding their blood, you support them, weather you agree with their deployment or not, that is a moot point at that time, they are there...show them your support.

He did not. He condemned them. Therefore he is a traitor....Hades..you can have him! Please find the time to shove a pineapple in a rather awkward position.

Interesting thing I learned today. Now I already knew that MV games have a depreciation down to 65% of their value. What I didn't know is that your total MV score is also calculated by taking the depressed score/number of games^.4

not that really stops me at all; just that my MV score will top out at roughly 630,000pts if I only play tiny maps at about 10,000pts each. I could play larger and larger games as I progress but the time and effort to put into to get only a very small fraction of the score isn't really worth it to me, but who knows, I may change my mind on that. I will probably end up playing one big map for every 10-20 small ones. The AltMeta keeps track of all games but only the ones in a six month span. Well, I hope to be at 500 games come June, so I think I'll be ok

Congratulations to Dionysus as to becoming the first Senator (other than myself) of the Olympian Gods. At 50 games, Ferrel has put his time and effort into this game and his contributions to the GalCiv universe are numerous and appreciated. Congratulations mate!

You don't even have a God of War yet!

If I can find my registration key to create another character, I'll gladly fill those shoes.

And Neilo should really be Hephaestus. Because he was the only god that was physically ugly  ;p  :SURPRISED:

Being a former soldier I totally agree with you there. What alot of people don't understand is that a soldier may not agree with the war they are fighting, but they fight it anyway because that is what they are ordered to do. Those protesters would be singing a different tune if another country was shooting up their house! Then they would be crying for the military to come save them. A solier cannot pick his wars but he can pick the manner in which he conducts himself while he is there. Once you get in a warzone it's not about wether or not you feel your country should be involved, it's about staying alive and more importantly keeping your fellow soldier alive. The soldiers fighting the wars aren't stupid. They realize it's has more to do with oil and keeping the big buck Military contractors in business, but if a little bit of good can be brought from this mess then that is something that needs to be strived for. What I want to know is how come the media never does a report on when the military opens up a new school or water plant so the people can have a little better slice of life. And for those who disagree with me don't try saying "well our military destroyed them in the first place" because there are alot of places in these countries that never had these comforts to begin with (or only the members of the regime that is in control had access to them). If you haven't been there to see the conditions in which they lived then sit down and shut the hell up! And just because you saw it on CNN doesn't mean it is the whole truth. Oh well, enough on my ranting. I'm not here to preach just to play!!

Please find the time to shove a pineapple in a rather awkward position.

Well at least you don't have to worry about a "Return to Brokeback Mountain" coming out.

I was going to pick the God of War but I figure the God of the Underworld was more my style!!

I agree AC.

I personally disagree with the public policies regarding the war and how it is handled, but I have friends in both Iraq and Afghanistan and I make sure to support them wholeheartedly. It is not the soldiers fault that they are there, they have to follow orders. That being said, the few (and I must stress few) soldier individuals that behave in manners unbecoming of a person in uniform, do a lot of damage in their own right and gives people that voice opinions against them more firepower.

ya know....one must truly appreciate the patience that the Devs have on here sometimes. I'll come across various posts that just shout the individual's ignorance and stupidity and yet the Devs calmly and politely send them where they need to go or tell them what to do. Especially the ones that are like "your game is broken, cheats, etc etc!"; no, not really, you just don't know what you're talking about.

I don't know what kind of calming drug they are pumping into the air there at Stardock but maybe they should start bottling it and charging $1.99

Heck, I've posted some dumb ones (and recently too) like...when I hit the show "old" improvements on the Build Queue and thought my structures had disappeared. But its all in the communication. Instead of being like "yer game sucks, it ate my buildings and I'm never playing again!!!" i posted, and got an answer (well from a player but still, not the point).

anyhow, continuing kudos to who know you for dealing with you know what

Congrats Ferrel on becoming a senator...and welcome to Olympus!!

Well said AC!! :CONGRAT:

Different situation but same social arrogance, my step father-in law, Henry, was a platoon sergeant in the army and fought in Vietnam. Now when the war ended and the troops came home there were parades and all that welcoming home type stuff for all the troops. Thing is there were a number of high profile media personalities, whether by their choice or the powers that be, labeled the soldiers cowards and murderers since they were killing in a war that we were unjustified to be involved in. These media types spewed their rhetoric over T.V and the newspapers leading up to one of the welcome home parades in Sydney, a parade Henry was prominently involved in along with the other soldiers who fought and survived, in the battle of Long Tan, where 2500 VC & NVA troops attacked 108 Australian soldiers. 18 Australian souls were lost holding the position till they could be reinforced where the VC & NVA lost close to 1000 troops.

Now that is an especially heroic effort and all the survivors were to be treat as such, heroes. But as they were parading through the streets of Sydney some of the masses that turned out to welcome them started hurling tins of food and rotting vegetables and started spitting on the soldiers. All because they heard or read what some naive and self absorbed media personality had to say. Was it the soldiers fault they were in war no-one believed in, of course not, like you said AC, soldiers do their job, no questions asked.

The Australian Gov't had come along way since then in repairing the damage done to those soldiers and then when Heath ledger started leading protests and selling the same rhetoric to the people from 40 years ago, many saw it as a slap in the face of all soldiers past and present.

Henry rung me last night, he said yesterday was a great day. ;)

Sorry to rant guys but i'm pretty close to Henry and the stories he has told me about those 2 nights are pretty eye opening, so when anyone chooses to disrespect soldiers in battle, i get pretty pissed off.

Oh yeah. I know all about what awaited the soldiers upon there return from Vietnam. My father also fought in Vietnam, but it was worse for him then it ever could've been for me. I volunteered to go in the Army knowing full well that I might be sent off to a warzone, but my dad was drafted. He had no choice but to go or to go to jail for draft dodging. I grew up listening about how he was blown out of his track when it was hit by an RPG (he was a scout track driver in the Cav), or when his friend died in his arms while my dad tried to hold is organs inside his friends body or how another one of his tracks was disabled by an RPG and the rest of the convoy fell back and left him for dead (even though he was still in radio contact with his platoon leader). Even with all the stuff he saw over there, he told me one of the things that hurt him the most was coming home to a country that hated him for...well nothing more than surviving through hell, I guess. So I am very much like you in that I get very pissed off when I hear people talking bad about our military soldiers. And if I'm within arms reach well they're gonna know just how much it pisses me off.
I could go on for hours about how I feel in this area but I won't.
