Network logon screen? Help please ^__^

My laptop is a university issue laptop, and so it came with a lot of preset options that are hard to change.
For example, the log on screen is a network log on screen (the kind that just shows the box where you select your network, then type in your user name and password). I can't change it to the simple log in from my control panel (it's not available under user accounts), and I would like my log on screen to be a little prettier (I'm one of the people who has to customize EVERYTHING.)
So two question:
1. Is there any way to change to the simple log in screen (or welcome screen, the pretty one with the user avatars and names) and still sign in with the campus network?
2. In the event that this is not possible, how can I edit the network log on screen? I would like to -at least- change the background.
Thanks for you time and patience!

No.

You can change the wallpaper if you want (I think):
  1. Navigate to: HKEY USERS\ .DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
  2. Double click the wallpaper value, and type in the full path of your image and the filename.
  3. To tile the image set "TileWallPaper" to 1
  4. To Stretch the wallpaper set "WallPaperStyle" to 2
  5. Close the registry and the changes will take place when you Log off.
