I'm actually glad that this is under consideration, much like I'm glad that politicians in D.C. long ago banned the use of cellphones while driving unless the driver was using a hands free device. The point in both places is that drivers that are paying too much attention to cellphones are not paying enough attention to the roads they are driving on -- they are instead distracted drivers.
The news I'm referring to, or should I say the law I'm referring to, is this: Virginia Considers Ban On Driving While Texting
While I appreciate the efforts of the legislatures and city counsel in D.C., I do have to ask why we need laws like these? Yeah, I know the answer without really asking the question I guess -- it's because people are just too frakkin' stupid to not do dumb things. Things like distracted driving.
I normally would despise government interference in my life, even in the name of safety, but there are times when I do need to be protected from the idiots out there. This would seem to be such a time.
