Minor race colonized a planet

Played a game the other day (DA 1.8g), and had a minor race (Scottlingas) colonize a planet on me. Didn't think minor races could colonize planets. This is the first time I've ever seen that. Anyone else ever have this happen? Just wondering.

...Yes, this happened to several games I played, too.

Ive seen a minor race have up to 3 planets, with a decent fleet, and I bribed them to go to war against the Terrans, who they defeated in space, but they would never make transports to invade the planets

There's actual some super events that even cause the appearance of multi planet minor races.

In my last game, an event took 32 planets from across the map that were colonized by races and turned them into a minor race....and they stayed alive for at least 4 years. They crushed the torians and drengins and then others moved in to invade.

I've never actualy seen one colonize though. It'd be nice if they did and invaded too. Would add another small dimension to the game.

I dunno, maybe you have to buy the ship yourself and park it right next to the target planet and then sell it to the minor to give them the big hint that they should do something about it (leading a horse to water, etc.) heh.

I've seen minor races colonize planets very rarely, but it has happened a few times. I dont know what causes it to happen.

Nope, I've tried that. The transport just sits there, unused.

Sorry us good folks of the Arrakis Imperium have a policy that clear states minor racesare fodder to be absorbed shortly after contact. Never let one live long enough to colonize. I consider them nice early game high quality planet grabs with stolen tech thrown in as a bonus.

Vuk, there has been a secret meeting to decide what to do about the Arrakeen Emperium menace. All races have decided to go to war with Emporer vukasika. The war has expanded... [I know you are not surprised to see this: since you always kill minor races, you see these types of messages alot.]

.....Arrakis Imperium .....

I've always suspected that the "invisible ship bug" is actually a manifestation of Arakeen "no-ships". I keep trying to catch one, but they are too slippery.........

Is that what triggers that message? I once had a bunch of races declare war on me with that message and i didnt know why.

Yes, minor planets are juicy... Nice high PQ, 16 bil pop limit (in DA). And you can usually take a few thousand BC from the minor through tech trade right before you declare war and wipe 'em out.

The only down side is that you end up with the "tendency to conquer others" flag.

Might I recommend you not take the minor as soon as possible. You should give them advanced computing and xeno economics as soon as you can and let them build a tech and econ capital before you pillage them ;)

It's Trade that allows the economic captial, and also dont forget xeno industrial theory so they can build a manufacturing capital too. :)

I had one race (The snathi) do this for the first time ever to me the other day, I was suprised and checked to see if they had conquered the planet (far more common for me) off the terran. Nope, they had colonized another snathi planet (some pq 7 peice of crap).

Be careful though. Sometimes minors are well placed with the race that shares thier fuel lines, I had the carinoids and the drengin in similar space and the drengin life support lines were being used by the carinoids (Each minor is attached to a major in this way. It's why the play stupidly sometimes or just seem to stop moving shortly after some major dies out) Well for some reason the carinoids and drengin both went to war with the torians and the Carinoids had 17 plants and 2 nice sized fleets when the torians turned over thier remnant empire to the terrans. They then siezed two iconian worlds... Minors can really get rolling and when I checked the carinoids were considered more powerful then 3 major races, I supplied them with 15000 bc and 12 or so warships (I hate the torians and saw it as an opprotunity to screw them) but when the war was over they had only two of my warships left out of 30 or so warships I could count in my line of sight. Another game had the Paulos up to 19 worlds or something when they decided to go to war with me and I snatched them all up. Play a game long enough and these minors will get going if they have good placement and early luck, I've noticed U.P. meeting where everyone trades techs seems to even the playing field out for them dangerously. Either it's that event or the akilians steal my techs cuz they had industrial sector when I was the only who had it or was even close to having it.

Minor Races should become a major race and start doing better stuff when they get X number of planets (3? 4?)

Didn't Brad say he really improved the minor races? I wonder what he changed?
