This is Who Will Be Choosing Our President?!

This is Who Will Be Choosing Our President?!

I just caught a little bit of Good Morning America's coverage from Iowa and had to switch to Noggin (for my toddler and for my sanity).  Chris Cuomo was seated with what was obviously a cherry picked group who had very different views on  how to pick a president.  The one that really got to me was the young woman.

They went around the table and said who they were supporting.  The one man who sounded most intelligent and informed said he was undecided.  The young woman said she was supporting Obama.  Stating that she supported Obama isn't what disturbed me, it was her reasoning.  When asked about the issues near and dear to their hearts, the young woman said health care.  Fine, that's a big one that many are concerned about.  But here's the first disturbing part, she just doesn't want to pay for it!

She described herself as a young woman who isn't in college and isn't covered by her parents.  She doesn't want to get married just to be covered and she doesn't want a job  just to be covered.  She, in her own words, just doesn't want to pay for it and none of the candidates are addressing people like her.

Ah yes, her people.  The young, lazy, selfish, unthinking masses who want the "government" to take care of them because "they just don't want to".  Yikes!  But I'm sure she's far from alone on this sentiment.

Here's the kicker though.  When asked why she's picked Obama, she said it would be really cool to have a minority president and noone is talking about that either.  Maybe because it's racist and insane to pick the leader of the free world based on skin color!!

This young, air headed, confident, self involved young person embodies my biggest fears about our country.  Too many of our young people are not thinking in reality.  They are thinking in idealism.  It's all about what would be "cool" and what they want from the government.  No thought behind who will then pay.  Where will the money come from to pay for the things they don't want to work to pay for?

God help us!

the info is not readily available.
Do you swallow your tongue if you're not actively concentrating on not doing so?

i thought you were against flaming people.

you two are computer experts. most people including librarains only know how to turn them on and off. and how to get online barely. i know a little more than that but i am not an expert either.

as for readily available how about everyone's story on the same website or at least connection from one site. plus the other things for that states election day activaties.

as for empowering politicians. the fewer number of voters the easier it is to say something that they will like.

What's keeping them from being informed?

Bullshit. Every place I've ever lived has sent out, prior to the election (in the mail) a Voter Information pamphlet, which contained all of the (major) candidates and their positions.

If people are too lazy to pick up that damned magazine that comes to their house free of charge before every election, they don't deserve to vote.

Amen!

you two are computer experts.
Thanks for the laugh!   There is no way, by anyone's account that I could be considered a computer expert.  I have been a stay-at-home mom for the past 11yrs.  My 11yr old is more of a "computer expert" than I am!

Librarians, on the other hand, have degrees and I guarantee they know more than how to turn a computer on and off.  You're just full of excuses.

to registered voters.

and as has been stated on here if your stupid you shouldn't vote. so if you shouldn't vote why register.

you want to limit the number of people who vote. i want to increase the number of people who vote.

most of the librarians i have talked to knew less than i did.

the liberals want to limit the voters to the people who will vote for them. so what makes you any different than them. limiting the number of voters for any reason is wrong.

i know that the worst reason to vote for someone is because of the party that they belong too. but at least 30% of the voters vote for the person because of the party they are in or because of the party that their dad voted for. these people don't care to learn anything about the person.

i agree that education is important. i have argued this in two other threads. and was told i was stupid because i thought that maybe all or some of college could be payed for by the federal government.

by the way the statement "i don't know anything because i have been a housewife for 11 years" is a bad excuse for not knowing something that you want or should know.

BTW, I didn't use being a housewife as an excuse for not knowing something I should know.  I was just demonstrating why I couldn't be considered a "computer expert".  You on the other hand readily demonstrated what a total idiot you are and that you don't merit a place in my blog so bye bye.

so once more i disagree with the writer of the blog and it is bye bye. gee most be nice to be a totalitarian.

so much for the so called open minded republicans.

I didn't claim to be a republican for one thing and for another, I am open minded but I still have a functioning mind that prefers to only converse with others who use their minds.  Since you so obviously don't think, I have no use for you.

I'm not trying (unsuccessfully so far) to get rid of you because you disagree with me.  I'm trying to get rid of you because you are an annoying, barely literate twit who has nothing constructive to add.  You say things that don't make any sense at all that aren't backed up with fact of any kind.

I guess the blacklist isn't working.  Maybe it just hasn't gone into effect yet.

Well I for one never claimed to be open minded.

I begrudge anyone but me having the right to vote. So the least they can do is have a clue about what they're voting for.

Hasn't worked in the forums for quite a while. I figure we're all just waiting for JU2 to address that issue. ;)

What's even scarier to me than these young people this young girl represents is the older folks who aren't much different.

That reminds me of what my wife told me in 2004: She was watching CNN and they were interviewing this middle-aged lady who looked very nice and all. They asked her "whom are you voting for". her answer went like this: George Bush of course, he is a Democrat and he is for the little guy.

it is more serious than we all think.

I don't think it could be more serious than how I've been feeling about it lately.

I thought it was pretty good too.

I took it off the forums to see if that does the trick.  It's annoying that blacklist doesn't just work across the board though.

I don't see that working either, since I'm still reading this article from the forums as I post this. ;)

Oh well. Maybe you pissed danny boy off enough that he's headed for greener pastures - he did just post a big "I'm not stupid, I just can't put sentences together and have stupid ideas" article to address it on his own blog. (Maybe it's just me, but if you can't put cogent thoughts together and you have stupid ideas, that usually means you're stupid - but whatever.)

I just posted a blog because I saw that one.

I'll have to get to the bottom of that.  I have connections

Oddly enough, it shows up in the "My Replies" section when I hit that button, but it doesn't show up in the "recent forum activity" list.

I think she has been pretty clear about the fact that she is Brad's wife.

However, living with somebody does not instantly transfer their talents.

so much for the so called open minded republicans.

What's closed minded about not wanting people on your blog?  That's not being closed minded- that's preventing yourself from having to deal with people you don't care to talk to.

And, for the record, I 100% believe that NOBODY should vote unless they know why they are voting.  If you aren't voting for the values that the candidate presents, then you aren't really aren't voting for a reason.

I honestly didn't even register that comment so thanks for clearing that up.  danielost has made a lot of bone headed assumptions and statements.  Disagreeing is fine.  Being beligerantly obnoxious isn't.

You're right! There should be something else! You could pay people to make it and like, print it on paper or something! And since it's on paper, and it's full of news, let's call it a newspaper! What a novel idea!

I think this'll go somewhere, man. You're a genius!

Oh, dear danielost, the excuses you use just make me chuckle.
