Revisiting NO RECEIPTS / NO RETURNS issue... Best Buy stinks

Oh, did I use their actual name above?  I suppose I did.  Not directly an employee name, but certainly the company name, and it deserved to be stated clearly and for the world to see.

BEST BUY stinks.

Ok, maybe they don't offend the orfactory senses, but their customer service responses leave much to be desired when it comes to screwing over customers with their NO RECEIPT / NO RETURNS policy that they've opted to clamp down on this holiday season.

See prior article here: NO RECEIPT / NO RETURN mantra this post-Christmas season

Followed up with the exchange clipped below.... This exchange revolves around the answers I got back from Best Buy corporate customer service after raising my concerns with this policy.

terpfan1980,

Thank you for contacting Best Buy. I'm {Customer Service Drone} with Consumer Relations.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to respond to your email sooner. However, I'd be glad to address your concern. I am very sorry that we were not able to return or exchange the two HD DVDs you received as gifts this holiday season. Unfortunately, as you have been made aware, Best Buy does require a sales or gift receipt when honoring returns or exchanges. Any exception would be at the discretion of the store management, which you're welcome to seek out. I certainly understand your frustration and I apologize for this inconvenience. Your feedback is important.

Thank you for sharing your comments with Best Buy. Please do not hesitate to contact us with additional questions or concerns.

Best Wishes from Best Buy,

{Customer Service Drone} and the Consumer Relations Team

To which I replied with the following:

Thanks for your follow-up, delayed though it may be (hopefully you had a happy holiday season).

I will reiterate, thanks to policies like the ones you have now implemented, you are quite quickly losing favor as the place that I will shop and/or the place that I will recommend that others shop when purchasing items.

As you are aware, there is competition out there, and much of that competition either offers cheaper pricing or more customer oriented policies in areas like the one I am complaining about here.

I would prefer to do my business with those companies where possible and believe that I am best off to 'vote with my wallet' in order to show my dissatisfaction here.

I appreciate that you are a bustling business and that perhaps you don't need customers like myself, but I believe over time you will find that your policies like this will drive away customers that have long memories. While you see your same store sales declining, perhaps other competitors will enjoy watching their business boom.

I thank you much for helping me to decide on where I will be spending my pending income tax refund as I have visions of HDTV screens dancing in my head. Considering that the state of Maryland has opted not to do you all any favors with a 20% increase in the state sales tax, the idea of mail ordering from businesses well known for customer service and great pricing becomes all the more appealing to me.

I wish I could say I wish you all the best, and individually that might be the case, but as a corporation I must say that decisions and policies like the one I'm complaining about here are reasons to say that Best Buy is becoming too big for it's britches.

For the record, this conversation will be posted for others to see on appropriate web-based forums. I believe strongly in letting others know what companies deserve their business.

Sincerely

Quite honestly, I really don't need to do business with Best Buy, and I will be glad to take my business elsewhere.  They do business in a highly competitive market, and I would be just as happy to take my business to companies like Amazon.com, TigerDirect, NewEgg and others that can offer me better prices for the same goods and then get better customer service on top of all that.

Best Buy it was nice doing business with you while it lasted, but thanks to this stupdity, I'll sit back and wait for you to put yourselves on the scrap heap of a long line of companies that I've watched run themselves out of business.  Montgomery Wards as an example, and a host of others that just couldn't keep up with customers that demand one simple thing: respect.

What's weird is that I have had nothing but the best experiences with Best Buy, unlike the PX or Wal-Mart.

Sadly I've had mixed results at Best Buys lately....

Stupid things like their receipt checking at doors, now their return policy on Christmas gifts, and poor service in finding items that I've ordered over the net for in-store pick-up.  Enough hassles to make them no longer worth shopping at.

Monkey Wards?  They still around?

I did buy my wife the Car Radio from them, but nothing else.  As you say, there are plenty of other stores in the sales sea.

Monkey Wards? They still around?

They seem to be around only as an internet based company.  Their brick and mortar stores went out of business several years back.... coincidentally enough, soon after they pissed me off to the point of no longer doing business with them.

It seems to be a cycle just about all of these businesses fall into.  They get too big for their own good, decide that they are more concerned about screwing over customers (while claiming they are trying to stop customers from screwing them over) and wind up chasing the customers away.

Don't get upset with the company. Get upset with the thieves & scammers who made it so that companies had to really start cracking down on returns & exchanges without receipts. What are the companies supposed to do, continue losing money? Businesses don't work that way.

How hard is it to hold on to a receipt? I'm sick and tired of all the people complaining about no receipt return policies.
