I switched from commercial brands to rollies and that cut my consumption from one pack a day to less than a third. @ $3.70 every ten days as opposed to $50 bucks.....$46.30 saved every ten days for the last eight months......46.30 x 3 x 8 = $1,111.20 savings. It isn't quitting but its a start. Seems they're a lot less addictive because of all the 'preservatives' not added to it. Plus there's no real cravings. But that's just me.

Po...you may already know this but I'll mention it anyway, smoking is also linked to lower back pain.

In my case it definitely was. I quit about 8 years ago and while I'm not pain free, it has lessened a good bit. At least now it's manageable with medication that doesn't put me in the ozone layer.

Day 650, about 26,000 cigarettes not smoked and around $16,000 not spent on cigarettes.

It would have been 5 years for me but I weakened due to stress and took it up again for a while.  However, it was 3 years on January 15 this time around and I'm still going strong... as in no chance of ever going back to it.

I tried hypnotism to quit....didn't work.

But the hypnotist said he left a post hypnotic suggestion that would have us sick and nauseous at the smell of cigarette smoke.

Every time I get near someone smoking, I actually get physically sick. My stomach curls up in knots, so to speak.

I know I will never smoke again....I can't if I wanted to. Which I don't.

It's 3am, I just woke up and hacked up a lung , or part of one, keep at it for your own good, gotta quit for you mostly, then others you care about, save yourself some misery and money. I hear drinking lots, water, not beer, helps greatly, flushes the nicotine out faster. Good luck. Even if you have a setback, keep at it, no rules on procedure, just what helps you do it is the only rule. :puke:

...it is a good old post...people share if they start to quit, how long, what works for them, if they can't quit.... etc.

And we cheer each other on....which is what friends do!!  :sun:

It'll be 4 years last month...every once in awhile, I take a very long drag on a pencil and that feels so good!!

The electronic cigarette was what got me to quit smoking. I now vape instead of smoking and have been smoke free for a year and a half. I love my ecig , just like regular smoking but with none of the bad side effects. And the really nice thing about it is I can smoke it anywhere even if it's a non-smoking area, because it's not really smoke , it's vapor.    -- Ace --

My daughter's partner used Chantix.

He gave up smoking but the side effects were terrible.

He came under the second section in the link below. ( depression, thoughts of suicide and most of the other side effects listed in that section)

He ended up getting psychiatric assistance which is still ongoing.

I definitely would not use it.

That's OK

By the way I gave up smoking 10 years ago.

I went cold turkey when I was told I had to have open heart surgery to fix clogged arteries.

I also gave up beer due to the urge for a smoke while drinking.

I managed to overcome that though and I now enjoy a beer at the barbie.

Cheers

I quit with Chantix.

My wife said it changed my personality a little. I had weird dreams, (which I like).

Other than that, it went well.

I know some people have serious depression with Chantix, some even get suicidal. So they say.

I think it's a wonderful thing. I know, for a fact, that I'd still be smoking if not for Chantix.

Oddly, my insurance would not cover it.
