So apparently Bush loves the little chil'ens after all...  (He just doesn't extend extra love to the ones that should have health insurance via their parents employers, or by other means that should cover them...)

To me this is one less incentive for people to come pouring across the border in search of freebies from the government, and it's one less disincentive for businesses that might consider cutting benefits for employees in favor of letting the government take on the burden.

Good job President Bush.

Nice.

Just be sure you understand that he signed an extension of the original program, not an expansion of the program.  This means the same people that qualified previously still get coverage, along with anyone that qualifies under the existing standards.

Anyone that would have been covered by the proposed expansion of the program (which was supposed to get paid for by Tobacco taxes at last check...) remains uncovered as they were before.

Nope, just making sure that anyone else that reads my fairly brief text doesn't mis-understand and think that Bush went along with expanding the program.

Please tell that to the the people that run programs like this in my state, or particularly in places like Northern Virginia, or Montgomery County, MD, etc.

Whether or not people legally qualify for these programs money is paid out for services for people that shouldn't be getting those benefits every single stinkin' day.  And once in country it's not that difficult to get fake credentials.

Best to not even have the possible incentive out there to entice with.

No, my point was that terp said it was less of an incentive for illegal immigrants to come to the U.S. I don't think any illegal immigrants are contemplating making a run for the border based on whether Schip passes or not. They don't qualify.

They don't qualify.

If the administrators follow the rules/laws, that might be the case... but since many don't, and they continue to hand out benefits to people without doing proper checks on citizenship, then I would argue that it's still an incentive along with other benefits (public school education for children among them) that are supposed to be given to citizens but wind up going to everyone that happens to reside in any given area.

So I continue to hold that SCHIP, like many other things, would be providing incentive for people to flood across the border and come enjoy the benefits.

This could be true. But in the end, the old bill, the new bill, or any SCHIP bill would cause them to do it. Since the illegals are primarily cash earners, they would qualify under all versions.
