Foundation modd

it might just be me but,Sins of a Solar Empire seems like the perfect game to make a modd based of the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov.

lol, loved the foundation series, but the implementation would be TOUGH, especially since there is little actual data to go on, so all the balancing would have to be done manually. plus you would have to have extensive knowledge of the books, of which there are many and they span an extreme amount of time. it really just isnt practical :(

what? reading isnt practical :P ?

Jop, why should someone read a book, just wait for the Movie :CONGRAT:

just base it of the technology of the original triligy (Foundation, Foundation and Empire, Secound Foundation)

With that said... some geeks know no limits of devotion to their labors-of-love. If one is properly motivated for whatever reason amazing things are truly possible - food for thought.

I never said it wasnt possible... basing it off the original trilogy would be cool, especially if scripted events were added to the game...

just a question, how many people have actually read the foundation series?

i have read it, obviosly

I did a long time ago but I cant honestly remember anything about it nor the hundreds of other scifi books I have read or listened to over the decades. I must be getting to old...

I think it would be to tough to chew but it would get the "USDA Select" rating due to the pure quality of the source. :p

there could be 3 basic fractions the empire with a few big powerfull expensive slow ships week late game strong early game

the kingdoms with cheeper weak ships with an economy dependent on tradeing with ether the foundation or the empire

the foundation with small quik week ships and a real good economy weak erly game strong late game

or somthing like that

Nope to much abuse over the years and some serious good living for the past decade.

Anyway, its all in the DNA brother. It is all in the DNA... :CONGRAT:

you guys forget, theres no one who really beat the foundation(the mule was pwned by the second foundation), who would the other races be?

Empire: honestly isnt even worth considering, they suck by the end of foundation and empire,

Kingdoms: Youve got to be joking, even if we forget the fact that the four kingdoms are controlled by the foundation and that by the end of the first book kingdoms as far as kelowna wouldnt even think of attacking the foundation, the foundation ships are faster and stronger than any ships except the relics that kelowna and askone used. Those two had fourteen old empire ships...total and most of askone's ships were sports cruisers.

youre left with foundation.

maybe the foundation could be just a source of trade and technology
then the fractions could be imperial provence and indipendent kingdom
independent kingdoms could get helped by foundation
imperial provence could get similer help from trantor
trantor = good erly game help
foundation = good late game help

and i do not mean the four kingdoms, i meen other kingdoms in the preifiry

FACTIONS, not FRACTIONS

I'm sorry, but there's just nothing there to make a foundation mod out of. The series isn't about space battles, or the technology, its about the people -- and thats almost all thats in it! How many ships can you describe, and their abilities relative to each other?

A) One of the "local kingdoms" found a Imperial battle cruiser that was, apparently, hot stuff at one point.

B) Imperial ships kicked the ass of the Foundation in the one war they had with them -- they lost because of politics, not the military.

C) The foundations ships were really powerful toward the end, with thought based computers.

first off the lack of detailed desriptipons meens that the genaric descriptions can be manipulated however they need to be

2 dont go past the original books in time and technology

3 see my last reply about trantor and the foundation

True... except insofar as the lack of anything "concrete" means every yahoo will be upset that you didn't get it "right" because it isn't what he thought it should be.

OK, so knock off my point C as being relevent -- except it was, in fact, part of a very relevant list of everything "concrete" I could remember. And even that was far, far from concrete. There just aren't the details needed to do a successful mod.

You mean the unreadable, multi line punctuationless kludge? I tried. It doesn't seem to make much sense.

I love this series (I recently reread all the books a few months ago) :)

Well one can easily take a lot of liberties with creating a game world with regards to all the aspects entailed within Sins. That is the entire point of the creative process. Use what existing background material that is considered germane and create the rest as needed based on the game engines functionality and within the cannons of the published lore.
