Monday Update to 1.01A now available

Here's what's new in 1.01A:

New Features:
+ GalCiv AI tweaked so that it bargains more intelligently at lower levels
+ General difficulty level affects which random events will be used (i.e. no more getting clobbered by an advanced story arc when you're just learning the game)
+ New Cut scene: When a player dies, you get a cut scene of ships conquering them.
+ New random event - population boom.
+ Social programs cost slightly less to maintain
+ Details screen now displays how much maint. completed projects use "(X)" by their names.
+ Some random events come later in the game.
+ Technology Trade United Planets issue nerfed
+ AI considers technology trade values more at lower intelligence levels
+ Added 2 new random events
+ Anti-Cheat methods beefed up
+ Metaverse submits difficulty level

Bug Fixes:
+ Metaverse submissions should work for all players
+ Crash bug in diplomacy screen hopefully fixed
+ Terraformer can be built
+ SDNet.lib updated for those who have had trouble submitting scores. Make sure you register with the metaverse.
+ Duplicate building of wonders / trade goods fixed

We decided to update it again today because of the metaverse fix which we think a lot of people have been waiting for.

Stardock Central:
These updates require Stardock Central. Major revisions will be available as stand alone patches but those will be much less frequent. If you don't have Stardock Central, go to the downloads are and download it. Once set up, go to the Software, Drengin, and then click on GalCiv and press the update button next to it.

If you want to see exactly what build of GalCiv you're running, go to settings and have it show revision numbers. TOday's build is 1.01A.31

Ahh! That download was much less painful than the first one!

Hope you didnt take my comments the wrong way considering after my last post the remainder of the thread was wiped :) Its good to hear major updates will be released in stand alone versions.

Lets see here. I registered for forums, next I registered for metaverse and now I must register on stardock for small patches.

Thx for the quick update

Does the windowed version get updated along with this, or does that need its own patch?

thank you. this update pleases me much. :)

p.s. quite honestly, I'm amazed by the speed with which probs are looked into with this game. nice.

Sheriff, I had the same problem. Go to tools/register products and enter you serial number and then click register. Make sure you select Galciv in the application drop down and not Dregin.net. That should do the trick!

The in game music no longer plays since I updated.

Or highlight your product and hit CTRL P. Updating the game via SDC is not very intuitive.

I was having a problem getting the update button to show as well, but entering my serial number got it to show up. I clicked on the update button and it's now downloading 84.62mb. Is it supposed to be this big? The 'installed' version listed is 1.01.029, and the 'available' version is 1.01a.031, which is what I beleive it's currently being updated to, but I didn't think the update was so large. Is this how it's supposed to be, or is something going a little whacky?

Just curious (and a bit nervous that it's going to corrupt my install.)

Thanks in advance,

No its not supposed to be 84 meg, it is 1 or so megs. It is just SDC acting up. Many of uss are in the same boat and hoping that they fix it sometime.

Ahh, ok I Intrude, thank you for explaining that. :) Fortunately, I'm on DSL, so it wasn't all that painful, I was just taken a bit by surprise when I saw the size SDC was showing. It downloaded the full 84 megs, but it worked. I ran the game quickly, and all seems to be in order. I hope they get the SDC issue resolved however. I really feel sorry for those on 56k if it comes up as 84mb for them. :(

Thanks again for the info. :)

This has always happened to me, but I just now realized it. Even with this patch when my instant messanger makes a sound in the background, the game and Windows 98SE crashes.

Yes, I'm using the SBLive! Value. This happened on the latest patch when I loaded an old game and was making a few moves. I don't know if that would have anything to do with it.

As I have mentioned before, SmartException doesn't catch anything because my box goes down in flames.

Cheers,

We think SBLive replaces the MP3 Codec in Windows since they are the ones reporting this the most often. :(

Your tech support (or developer) asked me to remove Colony_leaving.bik and give it a go. After 4 consecutive crashes on "new game creation", I removed the file and was able to start 4 consecutive new games without a problem.

Note it also has crashed on me when I transition to the win screen. Bink issue?

I know that SBlive takes over dos so that older games can't autodetect the card the normal way, so I wouldn't be surprised if it takes over the MP3 codec as well...........great sound, lousy drivers...........

Well, if it is the SBLive!, I think most people will agree that there should be a fairly standard solution to the problem. I've had the card for about two years, played more than my share of games, and it has been flawless.

Thanks.

Most games don't use MP3s or use DirectShow. Or if they use MP3s (most games don't) they use hteir own proprietary or licensed codec.

The 1.01 patch was a "deal maker" for me and this game. It made it much more fun! I'm sure the 1.02 patch will be even better.

I seem to have found a new trading bug/exploit in 1.01a.031. When trading tech or ships, I can get the maximum 0-month rate, then get the *same* amount for up to 5 months. Setting the number of months to 6 reduces the acceptable cash to a sane amount.

For example, I can trade Communications Theory for 64bc (0 months), 64/1 month, 64/2 months, ... up to 64/5 months. If I set the months to 6, however, I can only get about 20bc/month.

This bug could be even better than the old tech-trade loophole. I think I should get alignment points for not exploiting the AI like this. ;)

In case it matters, I am playing a race with +20% starting diplomacy with all races at "normal". I also reloaded one of my old savegames (from the original 1.01+bonus version) and found the same problem.

Sound intact. SB Audigy 1.
You_Lose_End.bik is the same file I had swapped in. Would of hoped it would over write it.
:notsure:
E-mail if would like me to experiment with original files and then update on another build.
P.S. Great support, I've been bragging on you guys and gals. If the wife kicks you out for spending too much time at the office you can crash on my couch for a while. But bring chocolate.

Build is 1.01A.31

I downloaded Sundays version and it did not fix the duplicated wonder problem.
Trade goods seem to be unique now though.
