Error: Provider Load Failure

When trying to load a preset profile for PC services I receive the following error message: Provider Load Failure

An error message pops up for each service it is trying to access, so I have to cancel each message one at a time as they pop up in succession.

Apparently, something on my PC is interferring with TweakVista as it tries to set the services profile.

Any suggestions...

The error message described suggests that WMI (Windows Management Infrastructure) is not correctly configured on your computer. Please try re-registering and (if necessary) rebuilding WMI using the procedures defined here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/topics/help/wmi.mspx#E2GAC

If rebuilding the repository, you are likely to have to use the method described under "Other Versions of Windows", as I do not believe the XP SP2 or Win2k3 SP1 methods will work. You may also have to restart your computer to complete this process.

If this fails to solve the problem, you might try running the WMI diagnosis utility ( http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=62562 ) - its use is described in the accompanying documentation and a support page ( http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/topics/help/wmidiag.mspx ) but essentially; run an command prompt in administrator mode, go to the directory that you specified for the files extracted from the utility package, and run: wmidiag.vbs.

It may take several minutes to run - assuming you get the message box at the start and clicked OK, another a message box will appear when it has completed. It will put a log file and a report into your temporary folder, which you can get to by typing %TEMP% into your Start menu (order the Explorer window by last modified date to find it). Have a look through the report and see if anything interesting jumps out at you.

GreenReaper,

Your first suggestion was a bulls-eye and solved my problem without a hitch. I followed your directions and those on Microsoft TechNet and all works well now.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. For me this was like a needle in a haystack scenario, and I had braced myself to endure days of trial and error. Little did I know my rather difficult WMI problem (whatever that is), would be solved before the next sunset.

Just glad it could be solved that easily! WMI can be pesky some of the time. Hope you enjoy TweakVista. :)
