WoW... interesting but anygood?

Blizzard makes it, they will come.

In the same vein as my previous commentary ( The SWG post ) I know people will flock to World of Warcraft. Is it any good though? Well that remains to be seen. Beta has been fun but it's getting boring fast. Characters are level capped at the moment and once you hit that. There just isn't much to do. I know this will not be the case when it's released but there are a couple things that I'm sure will make it into the final release.

Rest State - I must admit it's an interesting idea. The concept is, you have different levels of Rest states. Without going into the whole description (You can go to the WoW website, the link is at the bottom of the page, and read about it) it gets rather tedious trying to manage this rest state. At first I didn't really mind it. It seemed like it wouldn't interfere with my playing. I was wrong. It's becaome a major pain in the butt to deal with. I believe you should lose levels of rest state as you fight. Not when you're fishing or doing trade skills. I know they make the rest state so you gradually lose experience points. Double Xp, then Half XP then 1/3 XP then no bonus just normal XP. It degrades from there. Thing is the XP you get from the Mobs to begin with isn't good. Of course I only compare this to other games I've played and that my not be a fair comparison but none the less. The XP seems rather weak.
Tradeskills - I'm not happy with the tradeskills at all. Unfortunately, this seems to be the trend with MMORPGs. Force the player to depend on other players for components and supplies. That is of course unless you want to go out and farm low level mobs for supplies and waste your rest state doing this.
Annoying, just annoying.
You Must Fight! - You have to go kill crap. There is no way to get around this. You have to go kill or you will make no money, get no skill points to purchase tradeskills. You have to kill kill kill. This is one of the things I like about some other games that are in development. You don't have to be a constant grind of hack 'n slash.

There is more but I'll leave it there. There are a lot of good things about the game too. Blizzard has a fairly rich storyline to use and they use it well. Although, I often wonder if the Diablo content wouldn't have been a good choice as well.
I will purchase the game but I question whether it'll keep my attention for long. Although there are a couple of other games that are coming out that have me intrigued. One is Vanguard - Saga of Heroes. This game has a lot going for it. One of the things that does have me scared is that it's being created by much of the team who created the original EverQuest. Now if any of you EQers out there remember the early days when they had open forums with Abashi as Public Relations Penguin, you'll know what I'm talking about. lets hope they don't do what they did in the old days, screwing the players all in the name of The Vision (c). *shudder*
The other is EverQuest 2. Although I saw the latest movie showing an attack on the Deathfist Citadel and it looked pretty stupid. So I'm not real sure about this game. I do not like the character models and some of the "features" of the game are kind of stupid. But, I'll buy it like a good drone and check it out. I remain hopeful though.

Welp, back to SWG. I need to get my surveying up.
