China gorged itself?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21924911/

seems like china has bit off a bit more than it can chew. TGD is a serious project, but its put stress on surrounding area that was never strong enough to hold this much water. so, predictions? failures? what do you think will happen. my best guess is that its a matter of years before the area around the TGD starts to erode. Then it either becomes a massive maintenance project that will cost billions, or the dam will be scrapped.

Oh blah, the amount of power this thing will produce will alone keep its financial fisability for years to come. Not to mention the fact that this will control flooding and open up the river for upstream travel, which will create a path way to inland industrial centers cutting down large amounts of travel and transportation costs. Not to mention the fact that the Chinese government is bound to keep not caring about the peasents who farm around the river. I would expect their further removal to be inevitable, for they have no rights, only people in the cities of China have rights.

Plus, since when has china cared about human and enviornmental tolls? It cares abot those things less then the US, if that is at all possible.

Plus foresight is not what most industrial powerhouses poses.

The united states cares about it's peoples health. So much, that when a kid scrapes his knee at a local skate park, it forces them (plus all the others nearby) to close down, than reopen a week later with you pretty much having to sign a contract to skate there.

problem is that the US is more concerned with what its stupid constituants think rather than whats better, a few properly safeguarded nuclear power plants (NIMBY syndrome) are far safer and more effecient than a huge dam.
which will create a path way to inland industrial centers cutting down large amounts of travel and transportation costs

china does not have "inland industrial centers", it has big shiny cities, then it has the farms and slums. inland is ALL farms and slums.

Wow shows how much you know about China

you're right, I forgot desert.

we are of course casting wide generalizations, I'm completely forgoing mention of culture and people. economically however, its as I said before.
Blah, most of their industrial centers are farther inland, look at a map

what do you think I meant by slums?

Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Dailan, Canton, and other coastal cities are the heart of China's economic power. The rural areas are mainly agricultural and a major gap has risen between the wealth of the coastal and inland areas.

As to the dam, China will just fill in the holes with peasant bodies. That'll help their overpopulation problems.

you dont have anything to push off of, and if you want to save TGE you're going to have to half your time in space. not that it matters much

Actually Schod I can use some of my hot air as a jet to push me back to the ship. Besides...you can't light me on fire in space, there's no oxygen to fuel it ergo, my original series of events (where I choke you) wins.

Besides, I wasn't trying to save TGE.
