Tech vs Graphic Size
Smaller stuff has bigger graphics?

Okay, maybe this is a noob question, but ...
Why is it that the more advanced tech, that is supposed to be smaller in size, has the largest graphics?
For example the Impulse Drive Mark III's graphic is about three times the size of the Impulse Drive's, even though it's supposed to be the smallest version.
Wouldn't it make more sense to switch the graphics around?
