The Fallen Guardian

Pain.

Darkness.

Cold.

So very cold.

Eyes fluttered open.  His vision was blurry and black around the edges.  He tried to move his head, but a wave of dizziness assaulted him.  His head slumped back down and he rested for a few minutes.

Feeling returned and a wave of flame ripped through him.  No wonder, his body was riddled with bullet holes.  Yeah, that was quite the evening he thought to himself.  His right arm would no longer move, it only quivered slightly.  With his left hand he felt along his chest.  Sticky, partially coagulated blood covered him and fresh was still trickling out.

He stopped feeling around and lied there accepting his fate.  He knew for certain he wasn’t going to move again, not from this spot.  So his mind started to wander.  All those memories of his past flooded back to him.  Everything up ‘til the moment he met her.

“There’s always a girl involved isn’t there?”  He mumbled as his mind traced every outline of her figure.  Her smile, her eyes, and her curves-they were all nice, well more than nice, amazing would be the proper term.  Needless to say he’d fallen pretty hard, hard enough to end up here.

He said he’d protect her and that he did.  He did it very well.  This time, however, he was down for the count.  Can’t win’em all, he thought.

As his heart started slowing and the world drifted away.  He had one last thought that brought him a smile.

At least she’s safe.”

Haha, of course I can.   If you thought it was that good, then I've no problem with it-it's an honor.

Thanks for reading.

Sorry I missed this first go round.  Seems I am missing a lot.

I wrote a short story in HS (10th grade) similar to this.  Not nearly as good though.  Needless to say, this one is a keeper. I dont think mine will ever see the light of day (outside the English teacher's eyes that had the hots for me).  Not after reading this.

Oy! My ego's going to go out of control if ya'll keep singing praises unto me.

Thanks, Doc.

I am a geek, not a writer.  You may be both.  I know this story.  If it is from the same inspiration, do something!

Are you speaking in riddles?...or perhaps I'm just tired and imagining implications.

Riddles?  maybe.  Look to where this inspiration came from.  If it is external (someone inspired it), go for it!

Heh...that's what I thought you meant.

I like this a lot, mate. Kinda reminds me of a dark manga comic, somehow. I will have to check out Roy's now.
